Hi. Ill be moving down to STJ on November 1st and have started looking into what cell phone plan to get when I get down there. I currently have Verizon up here (Washington DC) but will be suspending my service for the duration of my PMV. I figured the easiest thing for 4-6 months on STJ would be to get a pay as you go phone. At this point I just dont know which carrier would be best for me. I know AT&T is pretty big down there but is it good for STJ? Choice I believe is the other option but I have read varrying reviews about them.

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeremy

Hey! Choice is crap, so I would not recommend them. I have AT&T and it is generally good and gets the best coverage here. Sprint can be very iffy in a lot of places on STJ. My family that visits often has Verizon (they are from Massachusetts) and they always have good coverage here, so you may want to explore that more before you suspend service. Just a thought!

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I dont want to stick with Verizon is because their talk rate is $2 a minutes. I was on STT for a week in July and had to use the phone a bit for some quick work calls. My bill at the end of the month was $200+ I was looking at AT&T and I think that's probably what Ill end up going with.

Thanks for the help!

I have Sprint and am pretty satisfied with it. My plan includes free roaming and that is important. On the Coral Bay side of the island Sprint coverage is not very good at all, but I can roam and still use the phone most of the time. At&t has some odd dead zones. I have a store in Cruz Bay and it is only 400 square feet and I can get an At&t signal in about 200 of that 400 square feet. It goes from 4 bars to no bars with just a step in one direction.

Probably your cheapest option is to get a Go Phone in the states and see how it works for you. You can pick them up for about $20 stateside. I have seen the Go Phones at Pine Peace Mini Mart for $150. We also have a At&t store in the Marketplace, but I am not sure how much they charge.
