Mahogany Run is 5 min. from Magen's Bay on the northeast side of island. 15 to Red Hook, maybe 20-25 min to town depending on time of day/traffic.

Frenchman's Bay is on the south side of island and I"d say maybe 25- 30 min. to Magen's Bay, 10- 15 to town tho traffic can back up on heavy cruise ship days and take much longer, again depending on time of day/traffic and probably 15 - 20 to Red Hook.

I think the south side/Frenchman's Bay area is much warmer and drier than Northside Mahogany Run location, especially in the summer.

I have always prefered the northside but have friends that love south side and woud not coose to live anywhere else on island.
Same goes for friends at east end locations so it really is a personal preference, not so much pros and cons.

The island is small so it doesn't take really long to get back and forth. Just need a good car with good brakes and something high off the ground to avoid falling into those pesky potholes or tearing out the bottom of your car.

From my location on northside it takes me about 35 - 40 min. to get to Red Hook ( I am not a speed demon) and about 25 to get to Cost You Less/K-mart, etc, for shopping. However, depending on traffic/time of day, I can be in town in about 15 min. and Hull Bay in less than min. Hope this helps.
