Anyone have any comments about Eliza's retreat? Trying to get a sense of what is available b4 flying down - but the information/photos available on the web is minimal for any given property.

There are different sections of Eliza's Retreat with different price ranges. Some up on the ridge are higher priced and have fabulous views and others are at lower altitudes, mostly without views, in a more established neighborhood of smaller sized homes at lower prices.

PM me with which properties on the web you are curious about and I'll fill you in as much as possible once I know which part of the estate you have in mind. I have extra photos of some of the listings and can get more of the others to email.

I have a house in Eliza's Retreat. Like Alexandra said, there are different sections. The section I'm in, is, IMHO, one of the best kept secrets onisland. It's a decent neighborhood, close to town, and the prices are ridiculously low, IMO. I looked all over the island for two years and never found ANYTHING even close to nice for under $150k -- everything I found in that price range was crap. I had begun to think I would have to spend at least $250k to get something nice. Then, in '05 I found a house in Eliza's Retreat and simply couldn't believe it. Only $147K and it's actaully a decent size, and in good shape?! Seemed hard to believe. I got the house and could not be happier.

Incidentally, my neighbors directly across the street from me bought their house just a couple of months before I bought mine. Over the next year, they made various modest repairs and upgrades to the tune of about $8,000 total. Then, they sold the house and got $50,000 more than they paid. A profit of over $40k in a year's time -- not bad at all, and CERTAINLY a great sign for the property values in my neighborhood! They have climbed steadily ever since. Even in the face of the recent poor market, my neighborhood hasn't been affected much. That's the great thing about houses under $200k -- there's really no where for them to go but up, because there will always be a demand for them.
