Hello I was recently visiting in St Croix and came across this dog during my morning walk. She is as many a stray. She lives at the beach at Beauregard Bay, east of Gallows Bay, at the very end of the east park road. The entrance of the park is east of the marina off of Fort Rd.

I suspect she was abandoned since there are no other dogs in the area. I think she is about 1 year old, medium size about 20 lbs. Besides food all she wanted was to be pet and played with. She would happily lay next to me as I did some morning stretches over looking the water.

She meet me with a leaf from a sea grape plant in her mouth as her toy. I spent 4 mornings with her and if I could have brought her home I would have.

If you have space or know someone on the island who could give her a nice home please contact me with a direct message.(devine174@optonline.net) and I will attach pictures and a google map of where she is.

I do not believe the island has a rescue shelter that will keep the dog until adopted, so please don't turn her in, I think they would put her down if not adopted.

If you do adopt her please let me know, 1 - I really like her, 2 - the next time back to the island I would like to visit her.

Thank you,
Michael

Well, go back & look again, trw. Sounds like the dog is small so he/she wouldn't take up a lot of room. . .

Hello Trade and TRW,
Thank you for taking the time to go to the park.

The dog is located at the far beach past the big parking lot and chickens. The road will come to a split, you have to stay to the right, this road goes to the north beach not the house and antennas . She is the only dog there and will run up to your car.

Please let me know if you see or take her. She will not let you pet her immediately so take your time you have to win her trust.

I don't know how to attach pictures here , if we can so here is a link at kodak with pictures and a map.

Blondie would be a good name, what do you think?

Thanks

Mike, I would love to take her but I have too many animals as well. In the pictures she looks healthy and well fed. No ribs showing. Maybe she belongs to someone who lets her roam or maybe she is a neighborhood dog that everyone feeds. Just a thought. We have dogs in our neighborhood that are allowed to roam freely but return home at night for food. Sometimes I put water out for them. I will check on her when I am in the area.

This message is for both Tammy and TRW:

Tammy,
I don't think she is owned and just out. She was there every morning I was there. It took a little work to get her to trust me, so she is not familiar with people. Then after my visit she would not even follow me further then the first curve in the road coming back from the beach about 300 feet. Also someone brings her fresh water in plastic gallon jugs which sadly litter the area. Some one actually set up a dish for her.

There is no collar on her either.

There is an older couple who visit the beach every morning between 8 and 9 am the lady swims and guides the man into the water, he has a vision problem and wears the big green shaded glasses. If you ask them I am sure they can provide a little more info.

If the dog is not there someone may have picked her up. I am posting on a couple of forums and hav also sent an email to the local animal rescue. I have not had a response from them or anyone else, but you never know. I have asked if anyone does do any thing that they would keep me updated. I will send another email and see if they picked her up.

TRW,
we talking about the same place Altona park correct?
I don't remember seeing any warning signs. Your not in the campgrounds are you?

when you drive off of the road go over the bridge and then stay right, there is a shelter on the left pass it, then the road will split. The left goes to the hill with the antennas and the right, the one you want goes to the sandy beach at the top of the road. Did you look at my google map?
X marks the spot?

It's a strange thing how life works, the week before I visited I had to put down one of my dogs, so finding Blondie hint hint, and being able to find her a good home would really be great.

Thanks for all your help and concern everyone.

Mike

Hi migiz or hubby,
I just commented on you boat post.

OH, this is great .. No one has commented for over a week. I had asked people to email me directly if they were interested and I have not received any emails either.

All you have to do is go to the very end of the park road, the beach at the north end, she comes up to cars for food. Take your time to pet her, put your and under her head (neck area) to gain her trust. She will gladly run and play.

You will love this dog.
When are you going down ?

Pleas feel free to email me directly, it would be great to make this work.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I actually think we may have adopted this dog. She was at my vets office. Island animal clinic, Paul Hess.
She was brought to him by a concerned citizen and my wife saw her and fell in love. Not sure if this is the same dog but could be a litter mate. She has a bit of black on the tail which doesn't seem to show up in the pics. Hmmm.
She was 19 pounds when we got her which was about the time you first posted this. She is now 24 lbs and seems she will be a medium size dog with LONG legs. We've named her KayDee.
This makes 4 dogs and 4 cats.

Great news! I hope it's the same one. Bless you for adopting her even if it's not the same dog. You'll be repaid many times.

I stand corrected.
My wife pointed out that our new dog has less black around the eyes. I swear it could be a litter mate tho!
So keep on looking people.

Hello SkysTheLimit and Trade,
That would have been great but it has to be a different dog. Blondie, (my name for her) has only a 3-4 inch stub for a tail.

That is great about the other animals

Trade, were you ever able to go back to beach at the north end of altona park? I think you were in the wrong location last time you looked.

I have an email out to a friend and asked if she could look but I have not heard back from her. I am still hoping migiz can adopt her when they get there at the end of the month.

If any one has an update on her it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all your efforts guys..

Mike

Good luck with your efforts everyone. What a sweet looking animal, whoever ends up keeping her is very fortunate!

Hi Migiz,

Are you on island yet?
Are you still interested in the puppy I call Blondie?
I am currently communicating with the Animal Worden and he just emailed me and said the dog is still at the beach but is hard to catch. He will be returning to the beach again.

Hi this is migiz using my husband account. I am not sure about the puppy right now. We waited for awhile to hear about the puppy and thought maybe someone had adopted her. My family and I recently just rescued a puppy from here. But we will be out in a week. And if she is still there we just might have to end up with three. I don't want the puppy to starve to death or be put down.
Thanks for the update.

Hi Migiz,
I hope you are able to adopt the dog, you were the only people who expressed adoption interest. As stated in the above post I am waiting to here from the animal warden if he was able to catch her. I am waiting to hear from him this week. You may want to go to the beach to see the dog and start to win her trust.

Please let me know what you decide and/or do,

Mike
