yeah Tam, the price of fame sometimes sucks, i do not like the book i'm reading for book club, the elegance of the hedgehog,it's pompous and pretentious, but there is one good line in the book coming from a 12 year old girl she says "the only purpose of cats is that they constitute mobile decorative objects"

i'm not going to bookclub tonight, lol i just want to stay up here at the house and not go back into town, it's just so quiet up here and i'm sick of town and my apt and i don't have to work till 11 tomorrow and i won't get back up here till next tuesday,so i'm staying put, theres a great breeze and it's slightly overcast and i find myself wandering aimlessly in my yard just looking at stuff,i had one lime on my tree,in the back of my mind i'm worried about money and thinking i'm really going to need another job here pretty soon, but then i also think oh trw everything will work out in the end,he's doing just ok over at the resort and i'm doing just ok at the cafe but then my boss is talking about shutting down for a couple of months this summer and that would not be a good thing for me at all.so who knows, just keep plugging away and don't spend any unneccesary money and hope for the best, hey the beach and the library are free right?

I finally made it to the end!!! I started reading this particular topic's messages about a week ago (while trying to act like I wasn't goofing off at work looking at a VI message board . . . it's a secret that I'm moving down there in 2 months!!), got totally engaged, and then realized I had 80 pages to go . . . got to page 12 . . . still engaged . . . had a close call with the boss looking over my shoulder . . . then today I skipped to page 87 and "caught up."

I feel like you guys are my friends already! Trw and Trade, your posts make me think. Tam, you're a great lady and I'd love to meet your JJ! I hope I didn't miss the last . . . 6? . . . renter stories of trw's in my page skipping.

I'm moving down April 7th. I'm looking forward to the exhale of soul I know will take place the second I lay eyes on the island for the first time.

Thank you for sharing a piece of the life I so eagerly anticipate.

well i'm more than alittle irritated,i went to b'fast this am at rum runners and the waitress told me that peter from pickled greek is trashing the cafe i work at and is saying that my boss kept him out of this last jump up because of the gyro thing, now lets set the record straight. the crra started jump ups and first fridays to benefit DOWNTOWN c'sted restaurants and retailers,it clearly states this in the bylaws, the gentleman in charge of organizing jump ups and first fridays has been told by numerous crra members this fact and has chosen to ignore said fact to get the permit fee's. Peter made a choice when he opened his restaurant so far out of town when there were so many available places downtown, and so for this last jump up the bylaws were finally enforced which is why there was no pizza mare truck this time or pickled greek, the owners of styxx were repremanded for allowing the hot dog cart to be set up on their property, end of story

If Pickled Greek wants to join the madness, tho technically they are out of town, can they become a member of CRRA? Then after paying membership dues, purchase a vendors permit to sell in town?? If so, tell them to shut up, get over it & join already!!!

I talked to one of the waitress from pickled greek at jump up and she told me about the ridiculousness about only allowing c'sted restaurants at jump. Now she in no way trashed your cafe. She even told me what you guys were selling gyros and I walked up and got my gyro from paradise.

You know how rumors are, what to hear it from the source. Peter seems to drink a little too much, maybe he was just a little drunk.

I think the CRRA should allow other restaurants in to Jump Up, if they allow caters and such in. It all seems silly, the more the merrier. Why not make it a mini taste stx? That would be a great tourist attraction our Jump Ups would be then. Now its just mainly a party for locals.

PS I prefer your Cafe's gryos 100% over pickled greeks. Pickled greek is this small gryo with 3/4 of a plate or fries or really bad cole slaw. Only go to pickled when friends really wanna go.

I'm so sad to have missed the jump up! I heard about it and was green!! Does it happen just the one time per year or is it more frequent? What's a first friday? I have soooooooooooo much to learn. What's the crra?

Trade, I'll be moving to St. Croix, Christiansted. Trw, I will definitely catch up. It does seem like a lot has happened!

Last week, I had started to feel a tiny bit sad about moving away (I live in Minnesota, although I am originally from California and miss the ocean like a piece of my heart) because it was "warming up" to about 30-40 degrees in midday; last night, as I walked to my car with the wind whipping my cheeks despite the TWO scarves I was wearing, I wished it was April 7th already. I am not sad AT ALL anymore!!!

lol the whole point behind jump up was to benefit the crra members, crra encompasses market square to the fort and company street to the water,i don't seem to remember seeing the greek or mare at the ag fair which is open to everyone, fairness has nothing to do with it,the whole thing was a marketing strategy designed to benefit downtown. Gallows Bay does their own thing,Fredriksted does their own thing, cane bay does their own thing and the only reason they allow the pate and local food places is because they represent local culture. Thanks Betty,we heard that alot when they first opened, and so some of the new people know the gyros have been at the cafe since they opened as the ritz in the 80's and are still made by the same 3 cooks, and honestly they are probally our most popular item

What part of MN, trw? Did you enjoy your time here, or were the winters just too much? I'm so glad I have three more jump up opportunities left this year!! First Fridays . . . what a great idea. And food is on sale as well, it seems? That's going to be the best part. Yum!

Anita, I had to scroll back to see what cat you were talking about. Trw's dorito eating cat.

My first born daughter came to the island yesterday for her birthday and I have a whole week with her. Today we shopped in Christiansted and stopped into Paradise Cafe for a grilled cheese and to say hi to Trw. We shopped some more and picked up Chef salads for dinner and watched survivor. After hubby and JJ went to bed we sat on the front porch with daughter #2, talked and giggled until 12:15 am. Passed my bedtime. A good day. The only thing missing was mom, daughter #3 and my new baby grandson Phoenix.

dougtamjj,

what's hysterical is that we in the islands are so used to the "way out" that folks just kept on steppin' past the cat! the nonchalance made it even funnier!

wow, what a nice thing... family down to visit. that right there was a blessed day! hope your babygirl has a great time on the big isle.

Momabear and I will be down for the next Jump Up. It's also a first Friday. Does that make it special? It'll be our third Jump Up. We love nibbling our way through town. We usually end up at Angry Nate's for a last drink and possible dessert because it's near the gov. lot where we park.

Wow, 14 years? I never even noticed him till started opening his restaurant and was working over at deep end. Hes a character, the type you notice. I STILL wanna know why he wasted so MUCH money on PGT windows when he has those huge ass shutters. I mean seriously that had to cost him at least $10k. But ditto to what you said, very nice, but I don't think I've ever met the real him or at least the sober one, which is a common theme for many down here.

What made you want to move to the island? How long did it take from the moment you decided to go until you got off the plane?
