A co-worker was down at Marshal and Sterling this morning and he heard that there was an attempted robbery at StX Trading. He says whoever was opening up got stuck up at gunpoint. Bad news for the robber...the would be victim was armed and returned fire. The robber fled to a getaway car parked at Tutto Bene. This all happened before 7 a.m.

Now, this is all gossip so far....haven't heard any confirmed news.

I heard the same thing from the contractor working on my house this morning. Hopefully the guy is wounded bad enough that he needs medical treatment and that whomever treats him turns him in.

It sounds like kudo's to the armed citizen who used is weapon correctly may be in order if the story is as described!

I guess we are all lucky they didn't start their shoot out later in the day when there would be more people around. It could have ended much worse for an innocent.

Yes it could have ended a lot worse. If you do carry for personal protection, please use good judgement.

It couldn't have ended any better for the innocent who was assaulted. "They" didn't start a shootout, a bad guy did a bad thing and a responsible citizen drew the line, safely, legally and responsibly. LI2STX take your complacence elsewhere.

No, it simply could have ended differently. In this case it did not end bad at all. I support being armed and will be armed. Apparently the property owner noticed an opportunity and took it,nothing wrong with that. I am simply saying that just because a person is armed he or she may not have the opportunity to draw their weapon but if you are paying attention to your surroundings you may just survive the encounter like this property owner did.

rks, you don't know anything about me, who I am or what I know, but you can tell me to take my complacence somewhere else, I just stated it could have been worse. You are correct, I'm non violent and I don't believe guns solve anything but I'm anything but complacent, I just prefer to use other avenues. how sad that you cannot debate without making it personal.

I'M concerned for the safety of others as well as anyone. I think the victim must take additional training with the use of a weapon as a defense during the commission of a crime. A Head or Heart shot was required!

Never shoot for the head as a first shot warning. That will tell the courts that you the victim had the intention of killing the suspect.
2 rounds to the body, center mass preferred. You always shoot for the largest mass. If,after you take 2 rounds to the chest and you are able to still be a threat that is when the head shot comes in.

It is also a matter of firearm drills called know your limits. Some people may not be able to hit a head size target at 10 yards with a handgun and no you do not want a bunch of unnecessary bullets flying around.

Sorry Chockman If one fires and hits his target in the head first shot, than you can follow with shooting the bad guy in the A$$ twice.

li2stx: just a thought. Yeah, it could have ended up much worse. The victim might well have ended up dead. It happens a lot around here. This one decided he would live. The bad guy is now going to think twice before he tries to rob someone at gunpoint again. For him, crime did not pay. I've said it before, but when honest citizens learn how to use a gun properly and legally and arm themselves, violent crime goes down. What I don't get is why so many don't understand this fact and instead want us to risk our lives to be politically correct!

Before this turns into a macho/lame-o bash, I would like to say to everyone that non-violence is GREAT, I espouse non-violence and support anyone else who feels similarly. We have a great neighborhood watch, we work with people to find non-violent deterrents to crime, and we educate people to avoid victimization without becoming criminals themselves.

Further, people know best how to act within their own values and limitations. For some people, non-violence, self preservation, civic responsibility and fire-arms ownership with proper training and certification are not incompatible--in fact all self-defense training programs I have ever known focus first and foremost on how to avoid conflict.

We, on STX are a small community with limited law enforcement resources and our community is OUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. We do not have the luxury of retreating in fear and hiding in the statistics hoping not to be "one of them". Too many people have done so and our horrifying crime rate reflects that.

What I take the gravest exception to is the portrayal of a responsible person who has made us all safer as some sort of criminal. When someone acts responsibly and within the law in defending themselves they make our community safer by preventing a crime, by identifying a criminal and by sending a message. People who try to push an agenda such as li2stx did above are attempting to make criminals of the best of us and they make our community the worse for their efforts. I have nothing but arch resentment such free-loading and hypocrisy couched in noble, superior language.

OK Lizard. I stand corrected and am laughing my A$$ off. If the suspect just happens to take one in the head, one might follow it up with 2 in the A$$ for good measure. He could end up just disfigured and ugly after being shot in the face. 2 in the A$$ will ensure he doesn't get far from the scene of the crime. After that he is Law enforcements problem.

When I was in the Army, we were trained to shoot center of mass. That way if your shot is off a little bit, you will still probably get a hit.

The military also teaches a causality is more of a problem for an enemy to deal with than a dead person.

I have a black belt in non-violence. Bruce Lee's "First Rule of Fighting" is: "Don't be there! But. When a gun is needed, a gun should be used.

I applaud this victim for taking a stand. The thug got what he deserves.
I would expect responses like. Shoulda killed him! vs. Why would you carry a gun? And everything in between.

Bottom line. If you try robbing a certain percentage of the people,..Quess what, They/we might shoot your A$$.

It sends a message to him and his buddies not to F with this establishment.
I just hope the victim doesn't end up in too much BS legal crap!

Hats off to him!

As long as the victim had a permit to carry, and he feared for his life. there will be no problems.8-)
