Where do we go register to vote on STX? What do we have to have with us?

They had a voter's drive Aug. 2 according to the Daily News. The phone number to call for info was 773-1021.

and remember when you register to vote here you are giving up your stateside residency and you will not be able to absentee vote for president legally or to even go back to the state you came from to vote

We went to the voter registration next to Kmart appliances on Wednesday. We brought our birth certificates but Cindy had to go home to get our marriage license to prove that she was really herself. Nevermind that we had to show the marriage license to get a driver's license so that should have been good enough. It wasn't. Bring the marriage license! Otherwise it was the easiest adventure with VI government institutions we have had so far!

Was the marriage license because her name didn't match her other ID's?

Her married name was on her driver's license and her SS card, but not (duh) on her birth certificate. Hmmmm. What a conundrum for the small, governmental mind!

We have to stop back next week to register. They're going to stay open until 7pm this week because you have to register by 8/14 to be able to vote in the primaries.

One way to get around the marriage certificate is to use your passport instead of your birth certificate.

Thanks for the heads up, trw . . . We were told by a couple of people to register as a democrat so that we can vote in the primaries and then we can vote for whoever we want in the general election, is that right?

They offered to register me under my birth name rather than my married name if I didn't have my marr. license handy---even though I did not have any other ID in my birth name---not after 30 years or so....

We went and registered tonight . . . it wasn't too bad. We had to wait about 20 minutes for the people from the Board of Elections to show up but then the whole process took about 20 minutes or so.

I registered yesterday at Sunney Isle it took maybe 20-30 minutes, everyone was very pleasant.

If all the ex-pats registered maybe we could have some effect. I gave up my stateside residency out of an oblgation I was beginning to feel about conserving the finite resources of STX.
