I've been asked my opinion of the Reef Condos by someone who is thinking about renting a condo at the complex. I've driven past them a million times but I've never been in the complex and I've never known anyone who has lived in the complex. Any thoughts? How much will the average WAPA bill be per month.

There's another thread on this subject.

I considered a unit at the Reef. It was a mess.

Looks like a rabbit warren. See for yourself.

I like them!
Guess I am a rabbit.
Great pool, great community, they way they are set up you don't feel like you are next to anyone and the space and views are fantastic.I especially like that they are mod and not just a stacked condo design like most of the others on STX.
Also they make there own water and it is gravity fed so it works when the power goes down.
A matter of personal taste on design but most units that I have seen are in very good shape.

I think the Reef is very much a matter of personal taste. We looked at a 2 bedroom when we first moved, but the unit was on THREE levels. It was not for us.

My wife and I rented at The Reef (a one-BR unit) for two winters and we really liked it there. Yes, the units are small, and the fact that the one BR is a loft and does not have a door or walls makes it difficult it you want to have any guests stay the night. However, the layout is nice, the views are fantastic, and in general the place is very well kept up. Plus, the people there are really nice and it's very safe. It does tend to skew toward the older end of the spectrum as far as the neighbors are concerned, but we found that to be a plus (even though most people there are 20 years older than us). The only real downside for us was the distance from the complex to other areas of the island we like to frequent.

Our water and electric bills were not that bad--maybe (it's been a while since I looked at the bill) $200-$300/month combined (we did not have A/C).

If you're looking for a clean, safe, quiet and friendly community, I'd recommend it. (And it did not feel like a rabbit warren to me.)

I live at the Reef, we've been in a 1bd (loft) since December and we're moving into a 2bd next month. We looked at other options but the other places that were as nice (or nicer) inside didn't have a view or were MUCH more expensive. We have no Idea how long we're going to live here, but probably not forever - with that in mind, we want to be able to appreciate the place we live and the reef really allows us to do that.
The view we wake up to in the morning can't be beat. The pool is fantastic, and in the winter it can feel like living in a retirement community - but an active and friendly one! We are ALMOST the youngest ones here - but there seems to be a growing number of late 20s-40s living here as well.
You get trash pick up twice a week, gated community, Mail delivery (and the office accepts packages), the water system is really nice - especially since you don't lose water if the power goes out.
It can be "far" especially if you're going anywhere west of C'sted.

Hello!

I saw your post about the Reef condos. The Reef is a wonderful place to live. It has a beautiful well maintained complex behind security gates. There is a 9 hole golf course and driving range. The swimming pool is the most beautiful on the island. There is a private beach, The Reef Beach. Duggans Restaurant and Spirits Deli are on the complex and there is a new fitness center. The Reef office has many books and videos/dvds for residents use. You will find the residents to be very friendly as well as helpful. During on season they have many activities that you might want to participate.

If you are interested, we have a lovely one bedroom 1 1/2 bath condo for rent. It is first tier on the driving range. It has an uninterrupted view of Buck Island. We have all many new appliances including a washer and dryer in the atrium. We have a king sized bed upstairs in the loft bedroom and a comfortable sofa bed downstairs.

Please contact us if you are interested in seeing it!
