Yes, Northshore--up in the hills above LaValle--coverage was spotty yesterday. 5 bars and nothing. Haven't checked today.

Our AT&T service has been sporadic all week. Even now...three days after the weather cleared. I just got off with AT&T Tech Support. The girl I spoke with, Amanda, said she saw very few complaints from St Croix. She emphasized how important it is for everyone who has a problem call to report it. The more people that call the easier it will be to report a network issue and the sooner they'll send someone to fix it.

Their after hours Tech Support number is 866-801-3600. CALL THEM!

I called the 800 331 0500 # and got tech services. The answer is the cotton Valley tower on pony club road is in degraded condition and the tower east of that is not working. Supposedly they were to be repaired yesterday. ha. Maybe they are working on it today. They say by Dec all towers should be upgraded to 3 G.

Specialk, I keep that # and call them again. thanks

I was told that the tower in Cotton Valley is not working as well. I heard that a part was ordered but the PR crew that came to fix it was told to go home that a local crew would fix it.

I see one on the hill in Catherines Hope unless that is the pony trail one in CV. The Tech called it a South Shore tower. I just want my phone to work.

Me too Bombi, I have to keep driving to Chenay Bay and sit in the parking lot to make phone call. Annoying.

This is the third multi day outage on the East end of STX in the last couple of months. When I finally broke down on Friday and called them using my MagicJack they said two towers were down and would be back on line Saturday 6 AM. Called again yesterday as service was hit or miss mostly miss and was told 7:10 AM Sunday. Still not working most of the time so I will probably call again.

If you do call be sure when they ask you if there is anything else they can do that you ask for a service credit. So far I have over $50 in credits. If I can get it up to $150 I will buy a micro cell from AT&T and by pass their unreliable towers and run my cell service around my home off my WiFi connection from BBVI. Micro Cell is just like having your own cell phone tower in your home. AT&T started offering them because of all the network contention issues they were having in San Fransisco and NYC.

Jim

PS: I called AT&T at 12:45 PM Sunday and according to their system they fixed the problems with the towers and everybody should have service. My phone still doesn't work and if yours isn't give AT&T a call so they figure out they still have a problem. The number to call is 800-331-0500.

Jim,
We bought a micro cell for our NYC apt. and it works great, mostly. The only downside occurs if you are uploading or downloading big files--that has interfered with our phones (sigh). Kim

We've had ATT for 7 years with good service and only started have problems after Earl a couple of months ago. They certainly need to make correcting their problem a priority.

Thanks for the update on micro cells. The hurdle on STX may be that they don't sell them and/or support them in this market. If you go on line and try and purchase one AT&T says they are unavailable in this market and offer to put your e-mail on a list to notify you when they are.

I plan to talk to someone in technical support who knows something and see if I buy one in Chicago and then I bring it to STX it will work since they say you can take the device to any AT&T market. Does the AT&T network need software that they haven't installed in PR and the USVI?

Jim

Good question. I don't know. We are coming back in a few weeks, so we will know then. We are planning on bringing it with us and seeing how it works on St. Croix. My husband said it has a GPS function (the device needs to see where you are in order to work), so maybe when it ascertains where you are, it won't work in PR or the VI.) I just don't know, but I'll let you know after we are back. Kim

Hubbie spent an hour on the phone with AT&T tech support today trying to explain the situation. Apparently the tower in Cotton Valley is being upgraded because it is so damaged. There is one other tower that has the same problem. They said that the Cotton Valley tower was repaired on the 8th. We told them that it was not and they made a report. We still do not have any signal and they said they are working on it. They could not give us a time that it would be repaired only that they were working on it. Everyone needs to call.

Please call and report the problem. If we don't squeak this may take forever to get fixed. The call will be worth your while if you hti them up for credits.

My neighbor called this morning and the date they gave her was Oct 18th. Another week.

Totally absurd.

Personally I don't think they are going to fix it until December when they are putting in the new tower. There is no work going on up there. I will go up tomorrow and look again.
