What if..... What if...... What if....... and LOL it took a man in PRISON to get to get the court to say they could practice it in a group.

I have never known someone to stutter while typing.

Now what Atheist Church do you attend ?? Whats its name and what days do you attend ? Do you have offering and do you pray I mean what do you do in an non existent Atheist church ? I mean there isnt any by what I can find .

Funny that you should mention it. Check out this video and article.

I truly find you entertaining to say the least and saying this country was founded on FREEDOM of Religion money will NEVER say "God is Pretend"

Glad I can entertain you. Never say NEVER! Remember Zeus once reigned supreme.

Rotorhead,
I have enjoyed your fencing match on this topic. It would seem that you and I are of the same ilk. I look forward to meeting you once I am living on STX. I love a good debate, argument, or .....fencing match. Touche

Thanks, I love a good debate too. I just wish people could discuss topics without resorting to name calling and personal attacks. Unfortunately there are people on this forum who believe that if they don't like a topic being discussed then they have the right to try to shout it down rather than simply ignoring it.

Check out this debate.

Wow Roto you kinda hijacked this thread, I think it was really just about the exposure that this might bring to the island. The examples you mentioned earlier in the thread Olympus, etc certainly have not hurt tourism in those areas even though I doubt most folks expect to run into Thor. If you do not believe in religion as anything other than mythology then why not treat it the same as if someone had mentioned Greek mythology etc. would you have jumped in with the same comments if the thread started out speaking of a widely believed mythological figure? I understand you feel bombarded by others beliefs but you are kinda acting the same way. Maybe save it for when it gets wrapped up in laws and rights.

lounge, my original intention was to simply make a three line statement of my opinion. Since Tami obviously wanted to continue the discussion I continued it. Off topic discussion is common on this forum, if you don't believe that simply look at any thread which has over a hundred posts and you will find that it has most likely strayed off topic several times.

I do think that there is no difference between modern religion and classical religion. Simply new mythology versus old mythology. The difference is the validity that people still give to modern religion. If someone tells you they are looking for Thor's hammer you would think that they are crazy. If someone tells you they are looking for the Ark of the Covenant or Noah's Ark you might think that was reasonable.

Religion adversely affects the mental processes of its adherents. Look at all of the documentaries which show people desperately looking for proof or validation of their religious beliefs. They try to explain the parting of the Red Sea by Moses even though there is no proof that Egypt ever had Jewish slaves who escaped. They look for Noah's Ark even though there is no proof that a global flood ever occurred.

How many people are out looking for Thor's hammer? I have never seen a documentary about the search for Thor's hammer.

At the suggestion of others I have done that before. The people who are against discussing religion still insist on jumping in and trying to shut it down. One of the most notable was this one.

I started it at Neils suggestion. It was eventually shut down because Lizard became so abusive that an argument resulted between Lizard and TRW in which TRW left this forum and the thread was closed by Islander. I am not sure what was said at the end because Islander deleted the last couple of entries before closing the thread.

The bottom line is that there are some people who don't want this topic discussed and will not simply not participate but who will actively try to shut down the discussion. Luckily Lizard is gone. Maybe I will try again.

When that thread was shut down I sent a PM to Islander asking if the topic of religion was off limits. I was never told not to discuss atheism or religion.

I'm the biggest fan of religion on STT... I can't imagine how much worse getting all of my grocery shopping and errands done would be if half the island wasn't sitting in a bunch of churches praying to some magical sky wizard and eating zombie flesh crackers.

Magical Sky Wizard...I love that!!!!

Ok guys believe what you will but. items such as the dead sea scrolls were discovered years ago and weather you agree or not the Israelis have been in possession of the Arc of the covenant for a number of years.

weather[sic] you agree or not the Israelis have been in possession of the Arc of the covenant for a number of years.

Proof of any kind to back this up?

I believe it, because zero is a number.

I'm just kidding. I can see the logic:
The Arc of the Covenant exists.
The Israelis possess it.
The reader believes this or does not believe it.
Therefore, the Israelis possess the Arc of the Covenant.

Roto, Saddly, TRW also left this life--stabbed multiple times while walking to his home on STX. His body was discovered on a road near Cane Bay by visitors last year. TRW's killer (killers) remains at large. Isalnder reposted his tread https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?4,76206,page=1 An excellent read, btw.

Looking forward to meeting you if we can finally get relocated. Now if you can only convince me your helicopter can fly.
