The Trash Has Returned

Is it just me? ...or has the roadside trash problem returned in full force on St Croix?

We were doing so well most of the year, but so many of the roads are littered up right now.

I'd say it was because they were busy patching the roads, but that ain't true. Anybody seen a pothole truck?
And it has been a month since the flood.

I was under the impression that the weed-eater crews were now responsible for raking up the trash, but they seem to have fallen back into old habits lately. I'm guessing our only hope is if the cruiselines start complaining again.

I think we don't see how much trash there is until the weed-eaters come through and reveal it.

The weed eater crews are supposed to rake up the trash.
In areas where they don't weed-eat, I've noticed more trash too.

Some of it I think got floated out of the bush by the rains.

The trash on St. Croix never leaves and the road workers just chew up the big pieces and then try to pick up the bits...makes no sense!
It does seem that for the past few months, they are falling behind in cutting the sides of the roads, hence picking up the trash. Not sure what is going on. but hope tthey get back on it.

We have made it a practice to go out bi-weekly early Sunday morning and pick up the main roads near our home......5-6 42 gallon bags every 2 weeks. We can't rely on the government here to do it.

gonetroppo: Thank you for doing litter pick-ups. My wife and I and some neighbors do the same.

There is trash just about everywhere. Last week, I was out on some barely-traveled dirt road in the middle of nowhere, I walked 10 feet into the brush for a PrIvate seSSion, and I counted about 10 pieces of litter. I've seen people throw trash way into the brush. They must think it's better than tossing it onto the shoulder.

lol your right it never left.

i was behind a police woman one day and she threw trash out of her car. i tried to chase her down then thought what would i say to her.

the litter patrol will become the new butt busters. take some of the govt employees who have cushy jobs sitting in offices not doing anything and put them on road as litter patrol. signs say you will be fined but who will fine you? never could figure that out.

looks like finally fixing potholes out east. they pick and choose the holes they patch.
