My husband and I were thinking of relocating to St John for just about a year. We own a beautiful house on Kauai Hawaii. We have a 13 year old and a 18 month old baby. I have just a few questions if anyone can help

How are private schools? verses public
How are the medical services for my infant?
Is there a major hospital on St John?
Average cost of a 3 bedroom home to rent?

Is crime a problem?

We are really use to high cost of food. We pay about 6 dollars for a half gallon of milk.

I love living here, but if my husband gets on with a company there we will consider.

thank you for your time
Kali

Hi Kali.

St. John has a private high school, the public high school would require a ferry ride to St. Thomas. Most folks from the states send their children to private schools. There are medical personnel and a clinic on St. John but the hospital is on St. Thomas. It should not be a problem if your family is generally healthy but since you're specifically asking about medical services for your infant, if he/she has a chronic condition please do your research carefully as the availability of specialized medical services here is limited. There is no "average" cost for a three bedroom home on St. John. The vast majority of homes on St. John are rented on a weekly basis. This site http://vimovingcenter.com/cost_of_living/ lists the average monthly rent for a three bedroom home on St. John as $4,000-$6,000 per month. Food prices here should be comparable with Kauai but the selection here is much more limited. I don't know what you mean by crime being a "problem." I think crime is a problem wherever it exists. I do not believe St. John to be especially crime ridden. You may wish to peruse the links on this site: https://vimovingcenter.com/ especially the stories under "What to Expect."
