I managed to save $500/month by reading this board! It's in regards to health insurance. I was paying $648 through my employer for health insurance for a family of 4. The insurance happened to be BCBS. I read a post that this particular insurance was not the best in the VI for various reasons so I PM's HipCrip for her advice and I made one phone call to an insurance company. I found a $500 dectible policy through Amadex for my family of 4 for $305/month. Ok, if you do the math, that doesn't equal a savings of $500.....but since I'm not using my company's insurance they are giving me $198/month to spend towards my private insurance. Ok, now for the math. $648 - $305 = $343 + $198 = $541.

My total monthly savings $541/month. Thanks HipCrip and the VI Relocation Board! I have bought private insurance before back in the states. It was much more expensive than $305/month and basically was only good for catastrophic problems because the deductible was thousands of dollars. I was told by the insurance agents that the VI government puts a limit on what the premiums can be. Thanks VI Government!

Ok, so now I can put insurance on my short list of things that are cheaper in the VI.

1. Health Insurance
2. Cigarettes
3. Booze
4. Entertainment

I would like it, also, to add to my list of info to have on hand for the many people who ask about health insurance as well as houses for sale.
