Unscrupulous Contractor

The contractor we entrusted with our newly acquired home has left it in utter ruins. Now, we're left scrambling to salvage our residence and resume our remodeling endeavors while grappling with a profound sense of vulnerability and uncertainty regarding whom to trust.

Does anyone out there have any sage advice on how to vet the legitimacy of potential vendors? Moreover, do we have any recourse with the USVI government to ensure this rogue contractor is swiftly put out of business, sparing others from enduring the same fate?

For starters you can check their license with DLCA (on their website) and check with the LT Gov Office for good standing if they are incorporated or LLC.  And you can file complaints with those offices.

Scubadoo has given solid advice.   In order to help know how to move forward it would be helpful to know more about the renovations you are trying to do and how the first contractor left you in ruins.   Renovations on homes here are not usually very straightforward.  And there are many ‘unknowns’ that just affect building here in general.

We’ve done a bunch of work to our property over the past 5 years, both inside and out, including building a garage.  Never had an issue but we never used anyone that people we know didn’t recommend.  Generally speaking networking is the best way to fine good trades people, including a contractor for a significant project.  There are lots of good people to work with.
