We are planning on bringing our Jeep to St Thomas from stateside as we will be splitting our time and would like to just leave the Jeep there. Could anyone provide information regarding their experiences in the process. The shipping process (cost etc.) and what it takes to register/insure the vehicle in the USVI (cost & location). Thanks for all your help ahead of time.

This question is asked every 3.2 days... haha

Best would be to try a search, but heres my simple answer. 🙂

Insurance is cheaper (noone gets collision), shipping it here will cost you about $2000-2500, plus tax/fees specific to vehicle type, country of origin. Going to get your vechicle insured, get plates/sticker can be hit or miss, for some it takes all day, others it takes less than an hour. Took me 2 hours to get it all done on a Friday afternoon no less!! Ive only lived here for 2 months and i forgot where it is, because my friend drove me...but it cant be that far away 🙂

noone gets collision

Not true. Depends on the age of the car.

Here's a thread about shipping a car to St. Croix, not St. Thomas but will give you some info.

I would certainly have collision on a car I couldn't afford to replace. We just bought a new (to us) vehicle and borrowed some $$. This car has comprehension coverage, we can't afford to pay off a wrecked car.
