Wondering if when moving permanently how much time is given to get a new drivers license. Also would it be better to buy a car in the states and ship it, or buy one there.

You have 90 days to obtain your new license. I will let others argue about the second question. IMHO, we have far to many cars on this island as it is.

Speedy is right, it's probably better to bring a car from the states if you have a decent car that is paid off because most of the cheaper cars on the Island have had the hell beat out of them from the poor roads. Now if you pay up for a really good condition car that would make a difference. But make no mistake, either way within a few months to a year it will be a rattle trap. Now my question for you is, have you been to St. Thomas before and have you spent much time on the Island? I ask this because most who come to the Islands with the intent on making it there forever home can't handle it for more than 2-5 years before leaving.

This is due to a number of things and boredom I think plays a major roll in it. Island life isn't for most people. So if I were you, I would come down with the idea of living an adventure for awhile and see how it goes and don't burn any bridges.

Yes you CAN but you can also get a ticket for not having a DL. Will that happen, likely not.

90days.
Bring a small SUV with clearance for STT or a small fuel efficient car for STX.

Mike

I have not been to the STT before. I do want to be there for a couple of years and am looking at all my options.
