"Governor Kenneth Mapp said on Friday during his hurricane recovery press briefing that an off-island lineman was injured after being electrocuted by electricity emanating from a generator that back-fed power into a grid. The incident, which the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority has warned could happen if standby generators are not turned off when crews are working in neighborhoods, has caused the utility to somewhat alter its restoration plans: Moving forward, when WAPA is working to restore power in neighborhoods, it will bypass homes whose generators are back-feeding power into grids. The bypassed homes will not be restored until the complete restoration of the territory, so Mr. Mapp urged residents to take seriously the warning."

Come on folks. It's illegal to tie a generator into a building without a transfer switch but if you'r going to do it anyway at least know what you are doing and shut off the main breaker from the WAPA meter. Anyone with solar net-metering needs to make sure they are not back-feeding as well.

The statement above is questionable, if linemen know a generator is back feeding they are not going to mess with the line without disconnecting it first or getting the genny shut off. Perhaps if they hear generators running in the area they will just move on.

"WAPA’s restoration effort continued through the weekend and on Monday in both districts with over 16,100 customers restored territory-wide.

On St. Croix, approximately 65% of Frederiksted town has been reenergized on Feeder 8B, as well as some customers in Estate Whim. On Feeder 5A, the Ricardo Richards Elementary School has been restored as well as some residential customers in Estates Barron Spot and Ruby along with the Flamboyant Gardens elderly home. About 95% of Little Princesse Hill is re-energized on Feeder 4A, and on Feeder 2A, customers in East Street, Christiansted and Tide Village have been restored. Other facilities now on the grid include: Pearl B. Larsen Elementary School, the WAPA potable water pump station in Estate Welcome and the VIPD station in Estate Richmond.

On Tuesday, crews will continue work in Estate Rattan on Feeder 4A. Other crews will also begin working to energize from the west airport road along the Queen Mary Highway to the east airport road, allowing service to be restored along Paradise Road around to the Louis E. Brown Senior Villas. Additional work is also scheduled later this week on Feeder 3A from Catherine’s Rest toward Hermon Hill."

I feel everyone's pain, waiting for power. I kinda feel guilty that my Schooner Bay condos are already powered up.

We wanted to come for Thanksgiving, but I wasn't confident enough to book flights until Christmas. The not knowing was frustrating enough in planning a getaway. Can't really imagine the frustration of those actually living there full time.

"On all three islands Wednesday, additional customers were energized as WAPA’s crews and contractors continued reconstruction and restoration work.

On St. Croix, some customers on Feeder 4A in Sion Hill and Little Princesse were restored, while on Feeder 5A, additional customers in Barren Spot as well as businesses to the west of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center, to include the Social Security offices and the Board of Elections, were energized. On Feeder 8B in Frederiksted, customers on Hospital and King Cross Streets, and on a portion of Prince Street were restored, as well as the Legislature Complex, Whim Gardens Home for the Elderly, and the Marley housing community. Other restored customers include the Frederiksted Fire Services building, and several condo complexes to include Ocean Terrace and Bay Garden. On Thursday, crews will work in the Beeston Hill area, in Estate Rattan, and from the Richmond power plant to The Home Depot on Melvin Evans Highway. "

I chatted with an off-island lineman directing traffic on East End road just past Miss Bea Road. He said they are working on the main feeder lines on East End road, and when done will come back and go street by street to turn customers back on.

I told him about the Christiansted Jump-Up on Friday the 24th, and the Reggae party that same night in Fsted. He said they have been treated great by all. I thanked him....told him he had no idea how important their work is....he said he had an idea with a smile.

Sadly they had to cut our power that very day. We seem to have a problem in the Weatherhead that was hindering the 220/stove from fully working. The linemen didn't want to leave the power on for safety reasons. So here we sit waiting on an electrician to come and fix the Weatherhead so we can call the lineman to come and hook us back up. Maybe today will be the real hook up day.

Frustrating to say the least.

We live in town on feeder 2. Every house but ours is lit up.

Sounds like you only had one leg working and the other was broken inside the weather head, Definitely something to fix before putting power on it.

How quickly are they running the lines? Curious as to when they will start to do the streets. Don't think we will be on by Christmas, but one can hope.

WAPA rarely mentions Feeder 2 but crews are making a lot of progress on East End Road. New poles were erected as far as the yacht club Sunday and this morning crews are stringing power lines in front of Duggans and The Reef.

Thanks for the update, maybe we will have power by Christmas. 🙂 Are they following behind and doing the side roads or just the main line?
