Greetings,

I'm planning for relocation in September probably to STT - I'm simplifying my life anyway and auctioning a lot of my possessions/

What to bring...ship..., etc?

After auction, I'll be down to comfy cozy lving room furniture, bed, no headboard, a few family pieces, microwave, TV/DVD, stereo, etc. Kitchenware, clothes and my 2 Labs.

Should I bring or ship all this stuff or are most rentals furnished? I'll be renting for a good while, most likely.

Photo's how do they stand up under humidity? Paintings as well?

Oh & can I bring a window air conditioner - does power for them exist?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I love this message board!

Kind regards,
Phoenix

Leave what you can in America, as shipping is pricey, and most retals are furnished. If it's not furnished, or furnished to your liking, there are always things for sale in the Island Trader. Moving sales, leaving island sales, ectc. Easy to find what you don't ship.

Hello,

You can get microwaves, TV, DVD player, stereo here so unless you have sentimental attachment you could auction those when its closer to your move date.

If your family items are antiques and you have family or friends you could leave them with for safe keeping until you are settled then thats a recommendation.

I haven't had any trouble with paintings. Pictures stick to the glass very quickly if you don't have a thick enough mat to keep the photo well away from the glass.

Some folks have window AC units. The power for them exist. If you run it often your electricity bill will be high(er). 🙂

Hi Islander,

The more reading I do the more I add to the auction or to the list of things that go to my brothers house.

Small sentimental items, I shall bring with me - that's a tough one for me - all my "stuff" is sentimental. That's how I am everything mens something. Oooohhhhh - that's the tough part however it is all just "stuff".

Would I be able to purchase a window air unit when I arrive? It would be a good thing to have at certain times...especially for the dogs. I'm willing to forgo a few things for the higher electric rates from time to time so they, ok and yes, I confess, me will be more comfortable at times.

By the way, the threads I've been reading (all you folks are terrific and this is a great forum) indicate there is a K Mart. I think I may have read somewhere else that there are Big Box Stores on St. Thomas?

Many thanks & best regards,
Phoenix

2 KMarts! 2 Big Box stores and 1 Home Depot!
You may want to mail some of that stuff ahead of time.

Wow!

Cape Cod only allowed Home Depot a few years ago & then that was only in an existing building from which Bradley's had departed.

BJ's is just now opening here on Cape Cod. I have to confess the first time I went into a Costco, I thought I was in a theme park for shoppers (& that was only 2 years ago:-)

So in some ways, St Thomas is ahead of provincial Cape Cod.

I wonder if it would cost more to ship or just purchase there?

AC probably better to purchase there simply because of weight.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Phoenix

You really should wait on the a/c. Some places have them installed already and some places are so cool they don't need them!
