What happened to Home Depot that was to open on STX? I was of the understanding they had the permits and were ready to start renovating the store.

Hey East End Doug,

HD is still coming. They are doing the "ground work" literally, and are still moving ahead... So I heard directly from JW...but as you know, everything in the USVI takes a much longer time to accomplish than any other place on the planet...

I feel the same way about Home Depot - I'll believe it when I can walk though the doors.

I wish I wish Home Depot will come (in this lifetime)!!!
It's sooooooo frustrating to see bargins so close yet soooooooo far. STT flyers for HD tease & taunt us here in STX.!!! 🙁

I have tenants coming in next month that are sub-contractors for Home Depot. I don't know what that means, if anything. They were here before building a playground that HD was sponsoring. Maybe something else like that. But, even that is a good sign. I doubt they would be contributing to the community if they weren't really planning on coming.

The flyers don't always mean anything. On more than one occasion, I've gone to get a "special" that they don't have.

Me too, Trade. I have also had that happen at Kmart and Office Max. The funniest is when the fast food places actually have an item on the menu board, but they don't have it.

Those flyers are published in the States. Typical corporate America can't figure out to make sure local stores are stocked before they insist on the flyers being put out. I knew a manager a few years ago at Office Max who quit because of all the flak he had to put up with since Corporate wouldn't keep him supplied with what was needed here. In some cases I think Office Max sticks us with no longer produced items they send down from other stores in the States.

Wow double frustration!!! Live in STT, see a great item on sale @ HD only to find it's NOT to be found......yeah Trade that would stink more than just drooling & wishing!!!
So, then Office Max here in the islands is more or less a Big Lots? Sending us closeouts & clearence items (but at full retail no less)............guess corporate isn't too stupid, they know we're a captive audience & will gladly take the stuff......:-X
Another problem here is reliable shipping or mail. Working a retail shop here in the past we've had pkgs send express nxt day that have taken up to 4 weeks to arrive!!! When asked why & a refund from the post office, they inform me that due to *ahem* customs, my pkgs were delayed & it just sux to be me, no refund for you! Just another lil happy to live on an island, need to just accept it or go mad thing.

Yeah, Office Max was selling electric adding machines (needed the kind with the paper tape) that had ink cartridges no longer available except at hideously pricey costs via the internet at obscure sites so it was useless as soon as the ink wore out. I never buy anything like that from them now unless I KNOW it's a new model or the replacement parts are standard to more than one model.

I spoke to some high level people at HD and they said that the STX HD was now being put on a slower track. Read into that about a three year delay. Also given that that the economy is in the dumps it could be longer.

Having HD on STT has been a blessing. Too long have the local HW stores been sticking to the people of the VI. Now many things are cheaper in the other stores now but for the most part HD beats them. The real problem is that they ship stuff to other islands, even STX. And people came in and say give all of the plywood you have and bring it down to the dock. That leaves the small guy here with nothing. They have gotten better but I have renamed it OUT OF STOCK DEPOT instead of Home Depot.

But I am sure that we are better off with HD then not.
