There doesn't seem to be to much activity on this website in comparison to the past. I am curious where are people going these days to post their opinions on events impacting their daily lives. There is an important story about the quality of the water and there hasn't been one post about the subject. Five years ago there would have been at least 20 opinions other subject.

Good question, this site was helpful when we were looking to buy a home just about 5 years ago.  I’ve also enjoyed the knowledgeable and civil discussions about the community.  Too much of social media has become emotional and polarized, significantly reducing any value.  Hopefully we’re just seeing a slow period of activity.

People are going to Facebook first to get information about moving.

I noticed a lot less posting after the format change to the site.  And also when Old Tart stopped contributing.  But I agree, a lot of people are just using other formats where there is more traffic and participants in general like Facebook.  I do miss the discussions we had here in the past.  The more in depth responses from people of all islands I always found interesting.

I still pop in for a look most mornings. But, there's rarely anything to see anymore. It was so much more interesting when people were chatting about a wide variety of topics.

Its kind of like talk radio. Its only interesting if people are disagreeing.

i used to come everyday. in fact after the hurricane this was the first place i went. but facebook took over.

old tart, a name from the past. tried to accuse me of being racist when i mentioned a machette attack where i didnt mention color. she kept begging me to describe the person , when i finally did she implied i was racist. i was also not believed that the attack happened.

i was also called racist by some guy because i was invited to a party at someones house and i guess there were no people of color there. not my house, not my guest list but yeah, i was the racist one for being invited.

there was a lot of discord here, there is more on facebook though.

but there was so much more helpful information that was shared here. it made it worthwhile. but facebook ruined this forum, probably many others too

@speee1dy  Two questions   1) How did the person who accused you of being a racist know who was on the party's guest list?

2) I purposely am not on Facebook (maybe its been 10 years or so since I've gone on FB), but where on FB is there a VI forum?

There are a ton of Facebook pages that are VI related and specific island related.  I follow several STJ specific pages.  Although the info isn’t always super solid, it is the fastest way to get real time info.   The moderators of the pages make a big impact on how useful and respectful the pages are.  I prefer the private pages (which you are granted access to by the moderators).

@stcmike I’m guessing they were there too. I have no clue. I didn’t know who it was   There are a ton of Facebook groups specific to st croix.

Many online communities have experienced decreases in active posters over time.
1. Shift to social media platforms

2. Changes in user demographics or interests

3. Lack of new content or topics to discuss

4. Moderation issues or community conflicts

5. Technical problems with the website

6. Competition from newer, more active forums

7. Natural lifecycle of online communities

Without seeing the specific context, it's hard to say exactly what's happening in this case. If you're concerned about participation levels, you might consider ways to re-engage existing members or attract new ones through fresh content, community events, or improved user experience.
