Good Evening,
My wife and I just put an offer on a condo that was accepted and now we are looking to change some of the furnishings. Can anyone recommend a place to buy furnishings (rattan) pictures, etc on STX. Something that is not outrageously priced. Looking forward to the move.:-)

there are several furniture stores in the Peter's Rest area and a couple in other locations. Carlos & Sons is one of the largest, Best Furniture is another, Bargain Furniture is a third. If you have an unlimited budget and don't mind spending $3K or more on just a sofa, there are a few other designer shops to visit.

I guess this answers my question in another thread about whether your purchase has already closed. I didn't think so, but sometimes the MLS lags behind if an agent hasn't posted updates to closings.

Best wishes on your closing process. I hope it goes very smoothly!

I like Suniland in Peters Rest 778-8750, he has always worked with me on price and delivery, and he has a nice selection.

And remember to always try and bargain. You should be able to get at least 10% on anything. I personnally would go to Samson house, the stuff they have is much nicer then most of the places listed so far and rarely more expensive. Travelers Tree and Patadlis are both very nice but you will definitely be paying for it.

Hi folks,
I'm curious about how wooden furniture holds up, if you have your windows open most of the time? Do you get mold/mildew? If so, can you do any preventive care?

I searched back through the forum and found that there were differing opinions about whether leather furniture would hold up.

Does the wicker/bamboo furniture hold up well (mold/mildew, strength, etc)?

All depends where you live with the mold issue. I've never had a problem and my doors are open all day long for the dogs. I have leather furniture and minus dog damage it has held up very well, but its all real leather, no vinyl. Possible for anything to get moldy here if you have a spot in your house where the air doesnt get to with our humidity and our open air living.

I purchased some furniture at a couple of the "discount" stores listed above and had to replace it within 18 months because it was such poor quality. I buy most of my stuff from Sampson house - great quality and long lasting. I have also purchased some items from Travelers Tree and they also have great quality (a little more expensive though). It would have saved me $ in the long run if I'd just bought the higher quality stuff the first time around! I would not recommend leather as it does have a tendency to mold depending on your proximity to the sea and airflow in the home.

Depends on your budget, I've bought stuff from Carlos and been happy with them. They do a lot of volume and get stuff shipped straight from the manufacturer's (usually in Asia), I've bought furniture that literally says "manufacturered for Carlos furniture, St. Croix USVI" on it. They will also deliver and put stuff together in your house as part of the regular price. You can usually bargain with them, they will take a percentage off their prices.
