I ask this question again because i went to town today and i bought a couple of bottles of Rum and the cashier ask me which cruise ship or hotel i was staying at i said i am a resident i showed her my license she said there is a limit on the amount of liquor you are allowed to buy duty free. WOW! I was told that USVI residents can buy from which ever duty free we like as many times we want.

How can VI residents be limited in the amount of duty free liquor they can purchase here? Duty is a sort of tax added to certain items transported from one customs zone to another. As long as the liquor bought here is consumed here, there is no duty issue. Moreover, store clerks do not decide duty; customs officials do.

The cashier was really clueless because there was no ship on port yesterday. Buy all the liquor you want.

I know there was no ship?? she also ask me which hotel i was staying??? I know we could buy which ever thing we wanted but i wanted to ask this question just to see if i was missing something. Because i know every time i go to a store in town they ask me which cruiseship or hotel i am staying in. I am not going to say the store but the girl seem very clueless and new so i did not waist my time and went somewhere else usually i stay and question her stupidity but i had no time.
