Whole House Water Filtration Systems

Good Morning everyone

We are in the very beginning stages of remodeling our home - still in the planning stages - and were thinking about having a "whole house" water filter system for our cistern.

Now, as I am the "addicted to this forum" one of our family 🙂 I thought I would come to the experts.

I ran a search with all kinds of "search words" and could find very few posts, but did find a few that mentioned that UV Filters are best, so I was wondering if you could give me any information as to what they are, where to buy, etc and if this is the best way to go or do you recommend some other type.

Thanks everyone in advance

Pia

Ultra violet filter kills living organisms. It is added in line after your diatom or carbon filter which take out sediment and make the water taste normal.

We put in a UV light, sized to handle the anticipated # of gallons/minute going through system. Preceeded it with 3 large sediment filters, with increasingly higher ratings--actually it's decreasingly, since we go from 20 to 10 to 5 microns I think they are called in size. UV will not work unless water is clear. We then disinfected all our pipes with clorox, so the entire system was supposedly clean. We still have a bit of a funky taste to our cold water though, so now I think I will put on a charcoal filter, post-UV. It is a new cistern too, and I'm not sure how much that could affect taste of water either. This is still a work in progress, I guess.

When we arrived in March we had a UV filter installed on our cistern. We used Caribbean Hydrotech on St. Croix. Very honest and reliable guy. It cost about $1,000.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer.
I called Raindance yesterday and they were very helpful and nice on the phone and I am still checking out the others that were mentioned so I just wanted to say thanks to my forum family 🙂
