Tippi, anytime one of us here talks up a certain business, cell phone service, restaurant, bar, dive shop, hotel, internet service or anything else we are giving free advertisement, even when the place is being trashed it's still being advertised, lol i remember after the ice cream thing we used disclaimers to say we had no vested interest in the business we were talking about.

Messages of a commercial nature whether direct or indirect are not allowed. This includes but is not limited to business owners/representatives using their business name as their author name, posting advertorial type comments, including contact information such as web address, email and telephone number in signatures and in messages when this information was not specifically requested, soliciting business from board participants directly on the message board or privately by email and private message, conducting customer service on the board (such as making reservations/appointments, notifications of actions like intentions to call or thank you messages). Posts that state "tell them I sent you" will be removed. Business professionals can participate and establish themselves as experts on a topic by responding with helpful answers. In doing so they may sign their name and note their professional business. Their posts should remain of a general nature and may not contain requests to be emailed for more information

Yeah, I don't see a problem with real estate folks posting here either. I remember the first time I realized that realtors were posting... I had to stop and think about it, so I understand the concern. But, they have knowledge that individual land/home owners won't have. So, it looks to me like they are posting as forum members first, and realtors 2nd.... unless the question is really a real estate question.

And, if other business owners have information to add I think that's great also. I'd like to think that if business owner's posts are crossing over into more marketing than information, then other forum members will call them on it. These are small town like islands... it doesn't pay to get a bad reputation...

I really don't believe this was set up as a realtor board so yes it is relocation without a realtor. You get relocation info from people that have done it. You get first hand info from other transplants and islanders about living on island. I think its an invaluable source because of that, not because some realtor post info about the housing market. Relocation can include buying a house/condo but I don't think it means that for most. Seriously, wait a year or two before you buy, make sure you like it here first.

Plus you really don't know where you want to live at first. I know that sounds silly to newcomers but you will find residents have very strong views about where they want to live. I've lived west, center/north shore and east and am glad I got to know all three areas. They're all very different.

And I am in no way implying the realtors here are nice or friendly but think about it, thats what you have to do in a sales business. You may not have bought from a realtor but you may very well recommend the ones that were friendly and helpful to you or use them for your next purchase. That is the name of the game in sales, you have to have good contacts and good networking ability.

You can go to any realtor website and get info from them if thats what you want. They all have websites.

Is there a committee that sits around and comes up with a controversial subject of the week?

For those of us that do not partake in trivia, we sit around brain storming how to cause pandemonium on message boards........bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

TRW you made valid points and so does Betty. I tend to agree with Betty but I don't disregard your fine points.

If a person is thinking of relocating to the islands finds this forum, they can find a local Realtor thru Google or use a referral service from the place their coming from.

I wanna be the chairman 😉

No seriously I don't think anyones arguing, its just simple discussion. It's something that's been a pet peeve of mine for a while and it was nice to talk about it. I know its www.vinow.com board and I have little say in it but its always nice to discuss something. Lord knows it'd be a boring place if we all had the same opinion.

Funny you should say that Rasta. I hear there is a group of 5 women that meet for breakfast every morning, before the free speech show with Roger, to discuss what subjects they will bring up and play off each other with on the show! it's noticeable.

Well it does add excitement to the board!

Ok Betty...I'll second your nomination for Chairman...or is it Chairwoman? Chairperson?

Ronnie. now I'm going to start paying more attention to the Roger's show...

I stopped listening to Morgan when he started running those pyramid scheme commericals. I know he had the legal right to it but as someone who always claimed he was very concerned for the community, it just really rubbed me the wrong way. Those schemes always seem to prey on the ones that can afford it least.

I sleep through breakfast and am alway late to work somehow. 😉 Sooo no a morning person.

I do enjoy the tuesday night trivia but know the questions are incredibly slanted, but we keep trying.

The key is, " every time they answer a question". I have seen very few advertisements where someone is pushing a property.
Most just answer questions.

How do you mean slanted?
I know sometimes they seem easier than others, but no matter when it does seem it's usually between three or four teams.

I think it is an invaluable help for someone relocating. Almost everyone is going to be looking for somewhere to live, and I know I would rather get advice from someone I already know to be helpful, funny, involved in the community, and love animals! I also work with the public, but just because I'm being nice to someone, doesn't mean I want something.......

Terry - Have you been to any of the other trivia nights that Paul does? You know how half of the questions tonight will be from the silver screen edition or generally about things at least 50 years ago? If you go to the Wednesday night game it will mostly questions about the 80s and 90s. Even when we don't know anything at Tuesday it's still fun to go.

When I am on island, I always go to Trivia. I started Monday nights at the Palms, then to the place across the street from Tracy's, then Knowles before it was Tracy's.
On Tuesdays I go to C. C.
I attended the first night at Parrots Cove, but wasn't able to go when I was there in Oct.
I think that the crowd on Mondays and Tuesdays is a bit older then what i saw on Wednesday.

Have they found a new place for Monday night yet?

Most of the questions on tuesday night are baby boomer and older questions. I live for a good history or geography question on tuesday. I've really about given up. Did not go tonight. I asked the guy that does it Friday night when he was bartending at parrots cove and he just admited that he has to play to his crowd. I can understand it because thats definitely the busiest I've seen trivia on the island and hey hes got to eat, but its just disappointing on a sporting level and I don't know that I have the heart to go back. It just put a real damper on everything. Why not make it a level playing field? I mean not everyone on the east end is over 50! I mean last tuesday the whole second round was from the baby boomer edition....Comeon! And I really don't mean to come off as ageist but its not fair, but life is not fair, I'll just probably stop going all together.

I don't care so much about the questions. Our group is a little older, but we have a couple of 30 somethings, so we're OK. I hate all the posturing. For instance, last night, at Chicken Charlie's, some young lady was up on the stage either sucking her thumb or biting her thumb nail and just kind of doing nothing, but it held up the game. Plus, it's hard to understand the questions. It's noisy (hey, it's a bar!). I think we may try another location and hopefully a little different presentation.

We happened to be up at Parrot cove one wednesday and it was like a library. There were only two tables playing, granted they were large groups. But it is the same guy doing it.

Why don't you guys just ask Paul to mix it up a little more. The few times I have gone there were questions from all age groups but I have not been in a while. I know he pulls questions from at least 6 different trivia games.

I did ask him to. He says hes got to play to his audience. I mean its really packed there now that season started and it really mostly the over 50 crowd. Like I said I know its a business for him and hes got to make money. It was frustrating but it not something I really have time for anyways. Charlies has (well ever since it wasnt a grocery store) kinda been a older crowd slash Hovensa place. Thats just the way it is, you either enjoy it or you don't go. Nothing wrong with that at all.
