They take a stool sample to see if you can handle all the sh*t that you are going to have to put up with.

Speaking of the health card, I may be needing one soon. Can anyone tell me some particulars about the process... where's it located, what information do I need, when's the best time to go... etc.? Thanks for any help.

Take you sample to a lab, get it processed, take the results, if negative, to the community health center and get the card.
In St Thomas I recommend going to Cranston Dottin Lab at the Medical Arts Complex behind the big Banco Popular bank. If you take it early, leave it there early, they will have the results for you at noon in time to take it to the community health center at the RLS Hospital. They process them only from 1 PM to 2:45 PM. Take an ID as well as your social security card. Doing it this way will save you time and money. Cranston Dottin charges $10 for the test. If you go to the community center to start the process, you and leave your ample there and pay $17 but have to come back two days later for the results to complete the paperwork. Another $30. I opt for the Cranston Dottin way to save time.
St Croix may be different as they do things their own way over there.

I just always went to the hospital and did the whole thing in one day. Go very early, do the sample drop off, come back around 1 o'clock, and depending on the crowd, you are out in an hour + or -. The first time takes a little longer because of paperwork. Renewals are slightly easier and quicker. At the hospital, you have to ask specific questions. Nobody offers information, directions, next step, etc. So just keep asking "Where do I go now?" or "What is my next step?" They will tell you, but not unless you ask!
