I believe if you do a comparison, you will find that it is not that bad. But, like any small town community, you hear about it more than a big city. Correct me if i am wrong, but i believe STX has had 9 deaths to date this year - How does that compare to other areas with a simular population?

My opinion about why so many shootings. First of all it's one of the reasons I am adamant about encouraging people not to look for drugs while on vacation here. Most all of our shootings are drug related. If there is no demand, there will be no drugs. I know, kind of utopic but it could be a start. I am not saying that tourists come here for drugs, but it has been asked on here before.

The recent shootings may or may not have something to do with it. How they ended up there is a mystery. There was some talk about tyhem being invoilved in an altercation earlier in the evening atthe Greenhouse. I would not classify their shootings as normal in regard to our recent shootings. Hopefully it can be figured out and the killer(s) brought to justice. Lots of stories circulating already. We will see what happens.

In general, the shootings seem to be mostly drug and gang related. Retaliation drive-bys seem to be pretty common.

I live in Sion Hill, itself a pretty nice area, but too close to Sion Farm, which has shootings at least every month (we can hear them from where we are, only about 1.5 miles away!) Just last night I heard a couple of shots, then about 6 or so more, and then another one soon thereafter. My husband said it sounded like automatic gunfire. I don't really want to get into the crime issue any more than this, because lots of people will disagree with my viewpoints, but suffice it to say that since I have moved here (5 yrs) I have heard MORE gunfire than I ever heard while living in Brooklyn and NYC. And while in Bklyn I lived within earshot of a housing project. Them's my 2 cents!
