If you haven't been there, stop in. I'm totally impressed. Their restaurant, Wikked is really, really good with medium pricing and a very interesting menu. I think 4 more restaurants will be opening including another casual BBQ restaurant & some more high-end food places. We were given a tour & told there will be lots of entertainment such as steel pan & other Caribbean music as well as some classical performances. The shops are getting ready to open but what impressed me most is the friendliness of all the staff we encountered.

They're doing a fantastic job & this should really be a great boost to St. Thomas not to mention the job opportunities.

Some of the stores:
Coach
Louis Vuitton
White House/Black Market
Chico's
Diamonds Int'l (naturally)
Some home store the name of which escapes me
Little Switzerland (naturally)
A Sunglasses store

I know I'm forgetting some. But do check it out.

Yeah, I saw it too, looks really nice!
There is also going to be a Ben and Jerry's, Bad Ass Coffee, VI Brewing, an art museum, Body Deli, Royal Caribbean, Jewels, How about your pet etc...

Lots of things still to come, I hope Fat Turtle is opening soon!!

There should be more movement in the next couple of weeks ...
Check it out!
Inge

Hey Trade and ingetje,

Thanks for the report. Sounds great -- how exciting!!! I have been traveling quite a bit lately, but I am going to try to get over there real soon.

With the new political leadership and other new developments like YHG, many great things seem to be happening around here :)!

Fat Turtle looked like it should be ready to go soon. Wikked had lots of people in it already without a lot of advance promo & is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner (at least for now.) A couple of the stores were supposed to open today.

Right now the parking is free but they're going to start charging to keep people from filling the lot & taking dollar taxis to work downtown BUT I'm guessing that if you eat in the restaurant or shop you might be able to get your ticket validated but I don't know that for a fact. I can understand why they'd charge because it's such a nightmare to find parking downtown.

Hello All,

Does anyone know if Hard Rock Cafe is planning on opening in Yacht Haven Marina? That was the rumor a year ago. I also heard the chef from Old Stone Farmhouse is now a chef at one of the restaurants in Yacht Haven. Anyone know which one? Thanks for all the news. There are some restaurants on STT and STJ that I really miss!

The man who led our tour didn't mention Hard Rock opening in Yacht Haven. That doesn't seem to fit with what they're doing but I guess anything's possible. They are planning on opening a small 4 star hotel there though.

Teresa: Brian Katz from the Old Stone Farmhouse is the executive chef over all the restaurants in Yacht Haven. Meanwhile Ric Ade (sp?) from Bolongo Beachhouse has taken over Old Stone and has done an excellent job. IMHO, Old Stone is one of the nicest venues on St Thomas.

I am going to try to get over to Yacht Haven this week for a looksee.

Okay, had lunch today and was also impressed, although not crazy about the name. It was like sitting in St Martin, though, which doesn't bode well for me. I didn't even see scones on the menu- I am guessing that they are on the breakfast menu? They say they serve breakfast all day, but only Cuban Eggs and omelets were listed. I had shrimp tacos that were excellent, also a very nice gazpacho. Well trained personnell. Even the security guards were pleasant! The Fat Turtle is still aways away from being ready- I think it said March? in the paper. The marina was full of big boats, with (I am guessing it was) the Rising Sun overshadowing them all. Tables of crew, government employees, curious locals and tourists all enjoying the scenery.

One interesting item: There was a big sign on a building over in Havensight that said "Sushi Bar." Anyone know about that???

EE - my sources on the docks in Havensight tell me that the place currently marked "Sushi Bar" will be a Benny Iguana's (sp?), run by the same folks as the downtown location.
Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder where they are going to be located? I am pretty sure it is not where the sign is.

Wikked only has the scones on the breakfast menu. I had the Cuban sandwich for lunch yesterday. Chico's & White House/Black Market had big sales, too.

I LOVE food threads!

1. A new Beni Iguana?!?!? Woohoo...AnnNy please keep us posted.

2. Ok, call me blind, but where pray tell is the entrance to Wikked? I looked at both driveways and they still look like construction sites. PLease guide me!

3. EE, do I hear lunch this coming month?

Onika: I think there is only one entrance to the parking lot, and it does look a bit like a construction entrance. There is still a lot of work going on, but they are trying very hard to make it look nice. Ask any of the security people for directions. The restaurant is to the left, the shops are to the right. Once you are on foot, they have signs directing you.

Okay, here is what I learned...the new Beni Iguana is going to be next door to the new Local Color in the building where the post office is! Hurray!!! Don't know about opening dates for either one yet. (This is in Havensight, BTW, not Yacht Haven Grande.)

Okay, now I hear Beni Iguanas will be in the building behind the post office building.

Trade: I wish that we could have an open season on those filthy, nasty animals.

Hey, I am animal friendly, but those darn squirrels are just rats in fur coats! No one has started a 'saving the rats' campaign, so maybe in others eyes, the iguanas are just as annoying. Actually, come to think of it, somewhere they feed the mice milk in a temple and they are revered, so I may have to take it back. Didn't they used to eat iguanas back in the day? I am sorry, I am just chiming in to start trouble. 🙂 I have to find a hobby...
