C'sted Last Night

Went to a wedding at Commanche last night. The street thugs were out. A lady had her bag stolen. The thugs tossed the bag over the wall after taking the cell phones out, so the lady at least got her other personal items back, that's good. One thug was asked to leave the party once it was noticed that they did not belong there. He got pissed-off, then went up on the roof and tossed a beer bottle, hitting someone. 4 Officers came to the scene, and all four stood there while the story was told. This is where I come in...I saw the thugs who threw the bottle, yet the officers didn't need my statement. ?? I was walking in the Pan AM Pavillion & saw the thugs jump down from the roof, and get on their bikes and scramble off.

I just don't get how we are supposed to reduce the crime rate if people aren't asked to participate in the process. The officers said they didn't need anything from me. Go figure. Here I was a witness to a flying beer bottle hurting someone, and what I witnessed has no importance. I just don't get it. The officers did in fact go look for the thugs at Brew Pub, all four walked together! Why not split up and approach the thugs from two different sides? Well, the thugs got on their bikes & fled when they saw F-Troop coming in from the east. Baffling.

It's the new crop of street criminals that's been incubating for the past ten years or so...raised up with no social conscience, no morals, and a desire to get whatever they want without having to work for it.

If they are not stopped, nobody will want to live here or visit.

Not that you even live here but I wonder if you've ever met a police officer here or anywhere else who you didn't dislike. (td)

i know and Like lot's of cops just not lazy ones. Ignoring problems, and you all got lots of em.
Why would they not want a description from poodle? Oh maybe they are psychic cops and had a mental picture of the perps.
4 cops pointed toward the perp's and they peddle away on bikes. Excellent effort.

Go work on tourism OT. Promote the serenity and peacefulness of the USVI.

Denial, denial, denial.

Everything is fine. Right?

Write a letter of complaint to the Police Commissioner, the DA's office and Gov. DeJongh.
There needs to be accountability.

When you've decided to live here for a while, ICEMAN, I'll think about respecting your point of view but as long as you continue to flame the negativity and have nary a good word to say about anything related to living here, I'll just continue to shake my head and wish you'd devote your energies to taking care of business in your own 'hood. I don't why the VIPD didn't want a statement from poodle because I wasn't there and any comment I might add would be pure speculation based on hearsay.

Old Tart......you really need to get a life!

Rather ironic coming from someone who decided to get one but keeps negatively harping back on the previous one.:D

The main reason Caucasians leave here is because they are not accustomed to living in a Black majority place where they can't feel superior.

When they leave, they flee to mostly White places...like ICEMAN, for example. From those places, they can safely sit back at take potshots at the crime-infested, backwards Black place they just escaped from.

In reality, if they place was predominantly White they wouldn't care what the crime rate was...or how rude the people. Witness the way that they laugh off the obnoxious behavior of NYC taxi drivers, for example..."oh that's just New York"...then they want to berate us for our chuuupsing.

St. Croix is a nice, peaceful place. There are about 100 hardcore criminals here who repeatedly commit offenses. The vast majority of people here are kindly, decent people who would give you the shirt off their backs.

Go ahead and flame me and cry racism. The fact is, it is always about color so get your head out of the sand. A White man can kill 100 people and it is basically "whitewashed" but let a Black guy steal a ring and the whole world has to come to an end and everybody must stop visiting and never come back. That's why we hate tourism. Who wants to depend on peoples' whims for a living?

People like ICEMAN are just making a lot of white noise to mask their dislike of Black people. You'll never hear anything positive from him, and you don't want to hear what he REALLY wants to say.

Home-Despot......ur remark is very racist!
I left not because of the race issue, but due to a family illness, as many do. When I settled back here in the states is was not around the safety net of all white neighborhood, but a diverse one......Haitian, Cuban, Jamaican etc. I love the mix of culture and do not fear the tint of a persons skin.
Realize your blanket statement was a snub against Iceman, but you really need to ck your racism too, as your dislike for us Caucasians is very apparent in your remarks.
As long as you have hate in your heart expect nothing else in return.

I understand where Home Despot is coming from but do agree that the reason people leave isn't mainly for the reason he states. One of the things which saddens me is the number of young adults who leave home for the mainland to pursue their education with hopes of returning here eventually to work and support the community in which they were born and which they love. As black and as "bahn here" as they are, very few who return end up staying because they too are ostracized and passed over for jobs. Thomas Wolfe wrote, "You Can't Go Home Again" and that story is as true today as it was back then.

There certainly is a small but vociferously rude contingent on this forum whose main delight is to criticize from afar every aspect of living here. Challenge them and watch out for the fireworks as they'll do everything in their power to wield their ugly little pens to knock you down and tie you up with personal attacks. Funny when I look back over the years of contributing to this forum and remember how I was at one time labeled a "naysayer" for gently bringing up the negatives of living here to starry-eyed potential newbies who believed that living here was all about beaches and sunshine. "Oh, you're so unkind!", "Oh you should welcome them!" was the perpetual cry. Any dose of reality was taken as an unwelcome negative.

Now we have enough negatives expressed to sink a battleship and the tables have turned so that now in some people's eyes I'm labeled as a contributor who's in denial and shovels all the bad things under the rug. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't!

As for a couple of those rabble rousers who shall remain nameless, I'm sorry that living here and doing business here didn't work out for you. Your past posts tell the story. Your plans didn't work out and you were disappointed but your negative comments are without merit and credibility. Get over it, grow up (both of you are seasoned adults) and use your energy to take care of your own business in your own home town.

OT, you wrote that very well but i do not agree with home despot- i think if people were not open to meeting new people of ANY color, they would not move here in the first place. i would also think that people considering moving to an island in the caribbean would know that they are predominatly black and not white and that if they didn't not like a person based on that they should not move here in the first place.

he is right in that ALL people see color first and then the sex of the person, but that does not mean that we base our judgements on color. most people i know base our judgements on how we are treated by others

I honestly will judge a person on their body weight first. People who don't take care of themselves are usually over weight and messy. If a person doesn't care for themselves, I doubt they will be going out of their way to care and help others. Race and Sex don't play a part in that.

Before I get too blasted for this, nobody is perfect and not every situation is generalizable.

It's an interesting and very valid point but you might be very surprised how little many people really know about the islands when contemplating moving here. Honestly, I've seen it happen many times that some make the move and only find out when they get here that they're in a color minority they really didn't anticipate and a culture they find bafflingly uncomfortable to adjust to. They're not the majority by any means but they're also not a tiny minority. Some only last a weekend, some only a week or two and some stick it out for several months but I can assure you that they most certainly do exist, just can't get used to it and leave because of it.

You don't even want to know some of the comments I've heard and the questions I've been asked by tourists. I can't tell you the number of times I've been totally floored by some of them who assume that, because I have the same skin color as them, they can throw out with impunity some of the worst racist comments I've ever heard and many much worse than any of the sometimes nasty ones thrown at me by ignorant scumbag black locals over the years!

The rationale ain't all black and white (pun intended)! 😀
