Got no time to respond Home Despot. To your racist trash.

Got to wash my KKK uniform big rally tonight.

Ok bye.

What you perceive as Black racism is really a reaction to generations of mistreatment and prejudice.

It is situational awareness. When Black people recognize that we are judged first by our color, and approach things with that mindset until proven wrong, it is not racism, it is self-preservation.

Do a test...type 'white power' in google and see what comes up...type 'black power' and see what comes up.

The main reason Caucasians leave here is because they are not accustomed to living in a Black majority place where they can't feel superior.

When they leave, they flee to mostly White places...like ICEMAN, for example. From those places, they can safely sit back at take potshots at the crime-infested, backwards Black place they just escaped from.

In reality, if they place was predominantly White they wouldn't care what the crime rate was...or how rude the people. Witness the way that they laugh off the obnoxious behavior of NYC taxi drivers, for example..."oh that's just New York"...then they want to berate us for our chuuupsing.

St. Croix is a nice, peaceful place. There are about 100 hardcore criminals here who repeatedly commit offenses. The vast majority of people here are kindly, decent people who would give you the shirt off their backs.

Go ahead and flame me and cry racism. The fact is, it is always about color so get your head out of the sand. A White man can kill 100 people and it is basically "whitewashed" but let a Black guy steal a ring and the whole world has to come to an end and everybody must stop visiting and never come back. That's why we hate tourism. Who wants to depend on peoples' whims for a living?

People like ICEMAN are just making a lot of white noise to mask their dislike of Black people. You'll never hear anything positive from him, and you don't want to hear what he REALLY wants to say.

So I guess if you lived in a white "hood" and got robbed, beat up, shot and carjacked on a regular basis where the police did nothing you'd stay and not move some where safer. Right!;)

not the only time that racist has made racist remarks, islandtyme your remarks were spot on.

Racist remarks?

It is racist to point out that white people prefer to live near other white people?
It is racist to say that people see color first?

You think black people don't notice all the subtle racism directed against them daily? I coiuld tell you some stories about real racism.

That's exactly the attitude that angers me. Your description of my home as a hood where people are shot, robbed, and carjacked on a regular basis is incorrect, misleading, and ultimately racist.

The problems we have here can be found everywhere in America. Stop bashing me and I'll stop bashing your racism.
When a place is predominantly Black it is made to seem like a war zone just because it has the same issues that are caused by a relentless pursuit of the American lifestyle and the almighty dollar.

That is racist.

it seems you are under the assumption that only white people are racist. i prefer to live around NICE people regardless of color.
as i stated earlier, all people see color first. and then the sex of a person. that is human nature, you would notice if a person is white, black or asian before you notice what sex they are. that is normal. it is not normal to judge a person based on what color they are. you judge a person for their character.

and you do not blame the whole white population for what other white people have done. you blame the person or persons who did it. not everyone else.

white people feel subtle and blatant racism here and in the states-does not matter where, white people feel it too. but you dont notice that do you?

The problem is that some people take it further, and assume that they can negate all of another person's chracteristics because of color.
You know how that works, right?

I do not blame the whole white population. My statement was that I practice situational awareness. I assume that all white people hate me because of my color. If I am proven wrong by individuals, then we can be human together. I have nothing against people of any color, but I get sick and tired of people making value judgments about me because of mine.

In saying that you assume all white people hate you because of your color aren't making the very value judgment you claim to be sick of? How are things ever going to get better with that type of attitude? Wouldn't you be furious if a white person said "I assume all black people hate me because of my color"?
IMO there is no such thing as "black racism" or "white racism". Racism is racism period. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, yellow, pink, blue or red.

That is not a value judgment...that is a result of past experience.

It is more prudent to assume the worst, and then if you are proven wrong then say you were wrong and move on.

Much of the commentary directed towards this island on this board is racist in nature...expect people to react negatively to such bashing.

Florida has more crime than STX but people move there and then bash STX from there. That is racist.

well said divingirl, home despot, can not compare florida to stx. stx or the virgin islands if you will ,has a smaller population. if our population was the same we would have more crime.
our crime per capita is probably higher.
i do not need to reiterate what diningirl said because she said it quite well.

OK...so you both have outed yourselves as racists who insist that we have more crime here than Florida...why don't you move to Florida, then?
Sick of people coming on this board and hollering 'crime, crime, crime'...chasing away what little visitors we had left, and then crying 'crime, crime, crime' when people who have been backed into a corner start breaking into houses and robbing people.

I once had a guy get up and walk around the bar to tell me that he hated niggers until he met an Arab. This is a man that makes his livelyhood here in St Thomas as a contractor. I was shocked and didn't respond. Haven't seen him to tell him where to go back to an out him publicly!

HD - Just because someone disagrees with your opinion does not make them racist.

Your assumption that all white people hate you is a very sad statement regarding your sense of self worth, and a big chip to be carrying around. Your starting position is no different to that of a white supremacist opinion of blacks - fear through ignorance. I've lived in some VERY racist places in this world and while reverse racism here may exist, it pales in comparison (pun intended).

Racism can only be overcome if we all change our attitudes. How about you consider changing yours?

It's the crime that's chasing people away. Do a test. Type "wake up" on Google and see what comes up.;)

No! Say it ain't so! People are crying 'crime, crime, crime' when they and their friends are being robbed and their houses are being broken into? How totally unreasonable of them! Quite obviously racists too.

Let's see.

So the gentleman "victim" who Participated in the home invasion. Who according to his relative in the newspaper article was "taught right from wrong" and "there was no need or want that he had that wasn't met"

Was backed in a corner. Right Home Despot?

Maybe that is a Racist observation.

I never get involved in discussions about racism. People loved to be haters. It's human nature. Birds of a feather flock together. I have experienced racism many times in my life but I could never understand it. After many many years I have come to understand that it is just ignorance, culture, fear and up bringing. Over the years I personally have seen the world make strides to overcome this strange phenomenon of hating each other for our differences. It is part of evolving and adapting to the changes of this world. My grandchildren will see and experience things, adapt and evolve in ways I will never think of. Just life.

I don't hate "racist" people. I feel sorry for them. Really it is all just ignorance. Arab, Jews, white, black, Asian, Christians, Muslims, Hindu, atheist, gay, straight, poor, rich, and on and on. It is just what it is.

The reason I commented on this subject was this statement made by Home_Despot.

"Sick of people coming on this board and hollering 'crime, crime, crime'...chasing away what little visitors we had left, and then crying 'crime, crime, crime' when people who have been backed into a corner start breaking into houses and robbing people."

I don't know if I am misunderstanding but it seems that Home_Despot feels that "breaking into houses and robbing people" is an acceptable action when people have been backed into a corner. I am not sure what "backed into a corner" is. Being a victim of racism? Being poor? Being black? This is a very interesting statement. I would like to understand what it meant.

I think it would result in an interesting exchange and would be very interested in the same. So HD, how about it? What is it about life on St. Croix that justifies certain individuals being involved in violent crime?

Personally I think this is an amazing place to live that I'm proud to call home. There is a sense of community here that is lacking in most mainland cities and neighborhoods. It is so unfortunate that there is a small group in this society that flaunt the law, and even sadder that there is a larger group too frightened or disinterested to come forward with information to stop these crimes. (....but enough about the government 8-)).

it is also unfortunate that there are people that excuse these crimes due to the fact of race, wealth or lack there of, age, parental involvement, school involvement ..... at a certain age these adults and kids who act like adults need to take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming others. The blame game does not get you far in life unless your main goal is to be in prison or dead.

Isn't the excusing of bad behavior of the above an insult to those who succeed despite the obstacles they overcame?

I honestly will judge a person on their body weight first. People who don't take care of themselves are usually over weight and messy. If a person doesn't care for themselves, I doubt they will be going out of their way to care and help others. Race and Sex don't play a part in that.

Before I get too blasted for this, nobody is perfect and not every situation is generalizable.

Are you serious? I really hope you are joking.
I know plenty of skinny people that are slobs, heavy smokers and drinkers. Skinny does not equal healthy and neat.
Its just another form of discrimination, just as bad as judging anyone for color of skin, gender, the car they drive, the clothes they wear...its all deceiving. You don't know anyone based on those those visual judgements.
