Would this thread be suitable for a mainland musician
looking for VI players to talk some info about island gigs?

Probably not, bay37. The thread is more conducive to sharing music we enjoy and listen too. All music is welcome.

You would be much better off starting a thread specific to Musicians, VI Players, VI gigs, etc. and Jobs relating to those in the musical arts. Good luck!

Why did you stop by, Stardust? Is it because you seek a moment of quiet and peacefulness? Then relax, put up your feet, close your eyes, and listen.....John Barry will carry you to that place I call my Island....

Soprano Renee Fleming sings this aria. Dvorak's composition relies upon expansive arpeggiated chords to capture the fairy tale ambiance of Rusalka. The amicable old Spirit of the Lake, Jezibab, is enjoying the singing of the Wood Nymphs, when his daughter, Rusalka, sadly approaches him. She admits that she has fallen in love with a handsome prince. Yearning to know the bliss of union with him, she wishes to become human. Deeply saddened, the Spirit of the Lake consents to her request, and leaves. All alone, Rusalka sings this magnificent aria and shares the secrets of her longing to the moon.

Featuring the paintings and artwork of William Bouguereau, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, J.W. Waterhouse, Armand Guillaumin, and Spadecaller.

Lyrics (translation)

Silver moon upon the deep dark sky,
Through the vast night pierce your rays.
This sleeping world you wander by,
Smiling on man's homes and ways.
Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me,
Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?
Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me
Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?
Tell him, oh tell him, my silver moon,
Mine are the arms that shall hold him,
That between waking and sleeping he may
Think of the love that enfolds him,
May between waking and sleeping
Think of the love that enfolds him.
Light his path far away, light his path,
Tell him, oh tell him who does for him stay!
Human soul, should it dream of me, Let my memory wakened be.
Moon, moon, oh do not wane, do not wane,
Moon, oh moon, do not wane....

Rather than the orchestration version of the piece, the piano solo is usually how it is presented...where is this work specifically found?

'....Take a journey from the deep outer space, into the spiral milky way, then into one of its outer arms and behold the beautiful plant called "Earth". "Nessun dorma" (English: None shall sleep) is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot, and is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. The grandeur of the music matches the resplendent images of space. ...' R.M.Panlilio.

Please share your favorite music as the OP of this thread intended. Music is known as a universal language; what better place to speak it than on these beautiful Virgin Islands.
Many thanks! :@)

This has been a favorite in my family for a few generations. A plea from our loved ones protecting our country on foreign soil or on ships for long deployments.
