Someone sent me the following and wish there were as many places here that offered discounts as in the states!
Wonder if the ones here offer the same. Will have to check it out since it seems to be policy tho this is the VI.

SENIOR DISCOUNTS ( even I'm a senior for some of these :o(

Keep this list and send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

YOU MUST ASK for your discount !

WOW Alana, this is a great piece of work here. I don't use most of them, but there is a few that will come in real handy. I printed out the list to send to relatives and friends.

Thanks,
Mike

If you are back and forth to the states, they'll come in handy but doubt the majority of those listed that are located in VI will honor them since we are not in continental USA! Arrgghh! Someone sent to me so figured if info was accurate it would help others out.

It may not apply here in the VI. But it can't hurt to ask.

Please make sure of the senior discount BEFORE you factor it in. I received this email from Publix, who ONLY offers a 5% senior discount for 60+ in their Atlanta area stores.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and allowing us the opportunity to serve you. We always enjoy hearing from our customers, and we appreciate the trust you have placed in us as your grocer of choice.

Thank you for your question about "senior discounts". In addition to maintaining competitive everyday prices, at Publix we work hard to provide the kinds of promotional offers and incentives that most interest our customers. So, generally, we rely heavily on weekly specials (mostly price discounts and BOGOs); Publix Advantage Buys (discounted prices which usually are effective over multiple weeks) and some degree of couponing.

But we also face different competition (and competitive activity) in different markets. As a result we sometimes create different store specific and/or market specific offers. For a few years now we've offered a 5% senior discount on Wednesdays in our Atlanta division area stores. It is for customers age 60 and older. Please be aware that this program is only available in our Atlanta Division stores which encompass Tennessee and the northern portions of Alabama, South Carolina, and North Georgia.

While it may be unique to Publix in that area, we feel that our customers across all other markets enjoy a very similar (if not identical) overall value through our other forms of offers and incentives they receive. So, in short, though our promotional mix may differ somewhat in different areas - we believe that overall, we are delivering a "fair" and consistent value to our customers everywhere.

As an additional way you can save money, you'll be happy to know that our stores do accept competitor coupons from traditional supermarkets. I would suggest checking with the store manager where you will be shopping if you have questions about a particular competitor.

You may also visit Publix online for additional ways to save money. Please visit: http://www.publix.com/save/Home.do

We sincerely thank you for shopping at Publix. We know you have a choice when it comes to selecting a supermarket, and we appreciate your having chosen Publix. I hope you will continue to find shopping at Publix a pleasure.

If we may be of further assistance in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact our customer care specialist at 1-800-242-1227. You may also contact us via email at www.publix.com/contact or write us at Publix Super Markets, Inc., P.O. Box 407, Lakeland, FL 33802, ATTN: Customer Care. Please be sure to reference your case identification number. We look forward to serving and meeting all your future needs.

Sincerely,
Melissa

Also, don't be surprised by places like IHOP, Wendy's, Mcdonalds and so on not offering any senior discounts in your area. Most of these are franchise owned and operated, which usually mean they don't all have the same policies.

There are plenty of discounts here in the VI. The half-price vehicle registration and $3 St John round trip are enough for me! The theater has a great discount at 55. Grocery stores give 5%.

The ferry discount and the DMV discount require a Virgin Island Senior Citizen card.

The ferry discount and the DMV discount require a Virgin Island Senior Citizen card.

Which costs $5 and has to be renewed every 5 years.

Yes, you do have to have a senior citizen card. As an aside, I always wonder why someone doesn't sue the territorial government for discrimination. If the discount is for seniors, why doesn't everyone who can show proof of age get it?

The discounts are for bona fide USVI residents. Are you saying that visitors should also be eligible?

I should think a discount for a senior should be for all seniors. When we were in the UK, the concessions were for anyone over a certain age, maybe 62? Why should it just be for residents?

And why should visitors be charged more than residents for the ferry?

It's just not fair! Waa! (baby crying emoticon)

I have to agree. If one has a Senior ID, no matter where it's from, it should be accepted.
