You will not be able to find a short term rental from off-island. Come with short term plans (hotel/b&b) and search when you get here. You will find something.

I will have a job, price range is fairly limited ($1000/month), and am planning on getting a car.

Itsnt there a poster here that has a studio in peter's rest that he rents for pmv and short visit cheaply? Search the threads if you havent already for cheap short term rentals. There's not much to choose from but there are one or two.

Price is not you're biggest problem, although it could be if thats meant to cover all your utilities as well. Most places to rent are done so by private parties and a short rental is a big hassle (and possibly expensive to turn over), so most landlords want a year lease here. Good luck and it would work better if you were here full time. Try calling all the realtors on island sometimes they will let their more expensive rentals go a little cheaper if the market is slow and it usually is in summer especially on stx. Be persistant and call people back, because they probably won't call you back. Doesnt mean they're not nice people, things are just different here. Be nice but pushy. 🙂 In other words he who does not asks gets ziltch.

Hovensa has a huge project/turnover/something going on in May and June and part of July. I think STX is pretty well booked solid. For $1,000 a month you are going to have a problem.

Oh yeah I had forgotten about that....they had talked about bringing a cruise ship down orginally for their workers because the job was going to be so big, but it got a bit of a trim.
