Hi, I am moving to STT from Oregon mid May to start a job at the university. I'm looking for a place to stay near the university or the north or west side. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find housing, or is anyone looking for a roommate, or any other suggestions? I am 26, female, outdoorsy, and thinking of bringing my bike.
Thanks, KY

Best thing to do is get yourself an Island Trader and start calling. You can contact the Daily News at 340-774-8772 X361 and they will mail you an Island Trader for $4. But, as you will find, most people will not even consider you until you are on island, due to many people planning on coming and then not making it. Your best bet is to stay in temporary housing when you get here for a couple weeks, get yourself a car and then drive around to check out the various places, as they all sound good in the paper and over the phone, but when you walk in, or see the neighborhood, you may not like what you see. JMO (and experience!), of course. Good luck to ya.

Do you have a contact with UVI that could give you some insider info? The university is pretty small and they seem to help each other out a great deal.

Scrap the idea of paying $4! View the Trader on-line! Click on http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/ and then click on the Island Trader link. Awesome!

Elisabeth,

If you are looking for a part time job while you are here either babysitting or assisting with weddings from time to time let me know. We are due in August and NEED a good babysitter, and you being in nursing school makes me feel even better.

We have a washere and dryer you can use while you are babysitting too, just to sweeten the deal!

Best Wishes,

Stuart

Keri,

I just returned from STT where I secured a long-term rental. I looked at over a dozen rentals, from apartments to condos to houses. Properties ranged in location from Hull Bay to Mountaintop to Peterborg to East End.

I looked at both furnished and unfurnished, with leases of 6 months to a year.

The price range I looked at was ~$1575-3500/month. If this is in your price range, PM me with your specific needs and I will send you descriptions (and perhaps photos) of properties I saw that might work for you.

New properties arise daily. I found many in the VI Daily News, a few in the Trader, and many from existing STT friends. When you are down there in person, you will undoubtedly stumble upon a few unadvertised possibilities.

Everyone kept telling me that the best time to find a LTR is May/June. That is probably true, but those rentals may be only until the high season.

The less expensive the rent, the faster it will be snatched up. If you're looking for a less expensive property, be prepared to act fast.

Hi Keri,
Have you found a place yet?
I have a HUGE 2 bedroom apt in Charlotte Amalaie, that would be suitable for 2 room-mates. Email me at tamilner@gmail.com
