Hello People,

What is the method most people on island choose to sell their cars? I found allot in the island trader and a few on-line at various websites, are their any consignment lots or specific high traffic locations people park them at?

I am looking for a used vehicle, nothing new, $10,000 and under, I am planning another PMV after the 17Th of December for car shopping/purchase. Any leads appreciated.

Cheers,
Peter

Did you find what the best resource to find a car is yet? My hubby moved over last week and is renting his bosses car, must find his own "junker" right away. We'll look for a more serious vehicle once I join him after the first of the year.

Thanks,

Burrrrr, Nebraska is cold this year

Realy look close at what you can buy on island. It will cost you about 2-3K to bring a vehicle in. If you do bring a vehicle in give it the once over in the mainland. Check everything abd fix it before you ship.

Good solid advice! Keep in mind your neighboring islands, I have talked to so many people regarding cars and auto parts and the impression is you have to go back to the mainland for parts....NO! Puerto Rico is 30 minutes away and everything with the exception of the odd import, you can have sent to the USVI, one example is the seaborne airlines, 25 cents a pound for freight. For example, alcalde auto parts in alto rey PR is the largest ford parts distributor on island and they ship anywhere!

Peace the the best for 2008!

Yeah i second that... getting parts can be a real pain... even the most common parts can be a nightmare... heaven forbid that you get shipped the wrong thing... I needed a switch for my Nissan to the other day... ordered two always wrong... one new and the shipping was more than the part... buddy of mine sent me another, oops... I wound up tearing apart the original and making one with new ones... of course its my understanding that St. Thomas has a Western Auto (I'm not 100%)... St. Croix use to, and was suppose to have been great... a lot of my parts I order back in Texas (down the street from my mom's) and have my mom ship... its usually quicker and easier than doing so locally...

You may want to keep that in mind when you decide to buy something... finding a "GOOD" mechanic can be rough sometimes too... and stalling out ANYWHERE late is a pain EVERYWHERE, ESPECIALLY HERE DUE TO the Terrain... food for thought...

The best deals are on the street, especially the junkers... buddy of mine has been running a $600.00 one for awhile now...
