Hey folks,

It's about 7:42 on the eve of my departure to STX and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the board for being so helpful with answering questions and all that good stuff. I really appreciate it. I've learned a great deal here, and now feel I'm semi-prepared to spend the next month on STX with a little knowledge of what to expect, what not to expect, what to do and see, and what I might try and avoid, so.... thanks! I'll be spending the first few days on STT, as well, so there's a little bonus for me.

I'm also looking forward to meeting some of you... Loyal Reader, Ronnie, Linda J and Ric, Mike and Linda (see you in the ATL airport tomorrow morning!), Linda from Michigan (lot of Linda's on here, eh? I'll meet you for cocktails at STX!), and of course the woman who may very well become my bride to be, the lovely Katetastrophee. Perhaps I'll meet a few more on my trip, too, so.... Too bad Aimee's not down there. That'd be interesting, huh?

Anyway... I'm watching my countdown clock, looking at my suitcase, drinking a beer..... waiting... waiting.... See you there!

I just got back from visiting Steve on STX. Now I'm back on STT. I've just tried to call him for the millionth time, but the phone at the house where he's staying isn't working. Well, it isn't the phone, but the Innovative phone lines. It's very frustrating, but one of those things that you're warned about. He only has dial up internet access so since the phone lines aren't working he can't get online which is a very sore subject so I'm going to avoid it as much as possible.
I'm not sure if he would want me saying too much, but just to give a brief overview I think would be fine.
Hopefully none of this is supposed to stay a secret, so if so, sorry Steve if you ever get back online to read this, but the phone is so bad you won't even be able to call Innovative to complain about it, I'm seriously doubting you'll be online anytime soon.
As some of you may know Steve and I met on this message board and had corresponded for some time before coming down. He had a few days before he had to start housesitting so I convinced him to fly into STX and hop on the seaplane to come and meet me on STT face to face for the first time. So, we both arrived on the first of June and we spent the first 3 days on STT hanging out, drinking way too much, eating a lot of outstanding food, getting into fire coral (me, not Steve, he's way too smart to do something that dumb) while snorkeling, meeting tons of great people and generally having a lot of fun even if it was just sitting on the veranda (and yes, Ronnie, it is a veranda) at the Crystal Palace while watching all the boats in the harbor and seaplanes take off and land.
Then on the 4th he had to go back to STX to meet the woman whose house and pets he's taking care of.
I went over on the 7th and the rest is a little blurry, mostly thanks to Havis at Off the Wall. I believe that he (Steve, not Havis, although he probably would have as well) encouraged me to do my open water scuba class which I was kind of chicken to do, but with enough coddling and the knowledge that I would be rewarded with Cruzan Confusions at the end of the day I relented and now I'm a certified open water diver. Yay me. But now I'm off the whole point.
So to get back to it, Steve is on STX watching a bunch of silly animals and fending off the mosquitoes and centipedes, hanging out at the beach and dodging the mongooses? mongeese? mongeeses? Anyway, those weasly little critters that like to dash out into the road when you're least suspecting. So far, he's managed to avoid them all while driving which is more than I can say for myself here on STT and the iguana I smashed almost immediatly after being persuaded to drive which I didn't want to do, but guess who convinced me that I should?
I'm sure that Steve would have a ton more to say if only he could and even if I could get a good enough phone connection I might let him dictate something to me, but all I get are crackles intermingled with snippets of a southern accent (yes, you do too). I'm thinking that since he's on the north shore and I'm looking over the harbor and can see STX from here that we would probably be better off communicating with smoke signals.
Hopefully, soon he'll be able to tell you himself.

So, where is he housesitting? I run around this crazy island all day long and could give him a lift somewhere or grab a bite to eat. I've been to off the wall quite a bit - wouldn't know him to see him - he was supposed to buy me a free rum punch at the airport - thanks katetastrophee! lol Just joking. Not into that this trip. Looking for NEW experiences.

But if he has no phone/contact - give me an idea where he is and I'll go steal his butt and make him have contact with the real world. Must be staying somewhere over by the Waves at Cane bay cuz they are running lots of lines over that way.

Let me know if I can help. Going Salt River kayaking in the morning.

Holy Begeezus, the phones are working!!! I’ll tell you what… dealing with Innovative has been a study in ineptitude!!! I’ve actually composed a brief, which I’ll pop up in a new thread in a sec since the phone line is clear, but wanted to respond here, as I saw my name.

Yes.. I am alive and well, thank you very much. Not stranded, Linda, so thanks for the concern…. And I’m sorry I didn’t wait around for the cocktails. No bar at the airport, although they do give out the rum, but I also had to catch the seaplane to STT. Also, like a dork, I wasn’t dressed for the heat, as it was pissing down in Atlanta when I left.

BTW, I’ll be at Off the Wall tonight and tomorrow night…. Hell, I’ll probably be there every night. Just shout for me at the bar. If anyone wants to meet up, PM me…. Maybe I’ll be able to check in more frequently now.
