Does anyone work as a nurse at Roy Lester on STT? I am moving down in September.. Anything about it that you would like to share would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

People call it Schneider Hospital or RLS. It is a part of an integrated system called Schneider Regional Medical Center, which includes the Myra Keating Smith Clinic on St John and Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute. While JCAHO (oops! Joint Commission) is trying to get rid of acronyms, the initials RLS, MKS, CKCI and SRMC are pretty common.

If you are a traveller, you should talk to your company. If you are coming down as a NOPA employee, make sure that the staff knows that. You will have a different experience.

East ender gave you the ways we all refer to the hospital -- the Hon. Roy L. Schneider is a past Governor of the USVI and the hospital is named after him.

NOPA is notice of personnel action & means the person was hired directly by the hospital or government. If the NOPA isn't signed off on, the employee can sit for a long time without being able to start the job. Used to happen a lot but don't know if it's better now.

As Trade said, a NOPA employee is a full time government employee. If you are a traveler, you are not a NOPA employee. I think they are faster at processing NOPAs for essential workers, like nurses, now that the hospital is semi-autonomous and they do have a method of paying until the NOPA is signed.

What I meant is that travelers are seen as temporary workers. They may not be warmly welcomed by staff (NOPA nurses). Travelers make more than staff and get assistance with housing, which makes for some bad blood between the groups.

BTW, a PM is a private message- just click on the screen name and it will ask if you want to send a private message.:-)
