Everything's sort of mixed up. Very few really iffy areas. If you'll be working at the hospital, check out the north side or Frenchman's Bay area or even the west end might be good.

East end is good, Crown Mtn Area, West end and North side Hull bay area.

I'd stay away from Anna's Retreat and Bovoni areas.

Avoid Smith Bay, Bovoni and Savant. North side, East End are great.

If you are a traveller, talk with others in your company about places they found convenient. As Trade said, things are not like the states here in that "nice" areas can have trashy houses, and vice versa. And contrary to Mr Blog above, there are some nice areas of Smith Bay (the area is very large.) I doubt you would find rentals in Bovoni (although there is one section I can think that could work) and Savan. No matter what, you will want to see the place yourself before you plunk down a bunch of $$$.

In September, "safety" means from hurricane damage around here! 😉

Peterborg Point or Water Point are very respectable neighborhoods...and expensive. You can find places on the Northside that are every bit as 'safe' and have great views and good prices...it's just a matter of due diligence...

There are some beautiful very expensive parts of Smith Bay for sure. So if you have some cash go for it but the general area of Smith Bay is not someplace I hang out. But everyone has different opinions. One of my favorite restaurants (Romano's) is in Smith Bay.

Thanks for the information everyone. I will be down in August to check out all the areas before I commit to the move in September. Just wanted some ideas!

Listen to East Ender regarding Smith Bay.....many travelling nurses stay at the Point Pleasant Resort......a safe property.......and not very expensive.

Do check out the areas that interest you.

If you're employed through an agency then use their resources and suggestions, as well, to select a place.

The East End is really nice....and Smith Bay is on the East End.

Quite often the people that live on STT, particularly Red Hook and vicinity, even Point Pleasant, Sapphire, etc. (all nice areas and all in Smith Bay) will refer to Smith Bay negatively. They (we) are referring to a small area in the heart of Smith Bay, known for drugs and the usual unpleasantness that goes along with that. It's just a small area, but it's one you want to be careful of.

Juanita: I find that the misinformation often comes from newcomers to St Thomas who don't know much but want to tell all they know to the next newcomer...;)

"the east end or the north end are the best'

In your humble opinion, of course.;)

There are people who live all over who feel that their piece of paradise is the best. To the OP- several people on this board either rent properties or advertise properties. Please check out any rentals in person.
