My family and I are moving to St. John the end of July. I had called Scenic Properties (long term rental property management company) to see what was available in St. John. They only had a few that would work for us and I know how difficult it is to find housing so I took it site unseen. I mailed a check express mail fearing someone else would beat me to this house. I packed up eight large suitcases filled with household items ie. sheets, towels, pillows, candles, dishes, pots, pans etc. and headed for the airport. My friend I was traveling with works for a major airline and luckily all eight bags got on board without being charged extra baggage. Unfortunately though, we arrived after our bags did and they were locked up for the night. We went onto STJ without my luggage and arrived at my new home after dark. We were very tired from traveling and my first impression of this house was not a great one..not to mention I did not have any sheets or pillows to put on the beds. I just wanted to go to sleep on a nice comfortable, clean bed. We went to the Westin Resort to see if they had a room available and they were booked. The girl at the front desk was kind enough to check other places for us but nothing was available. We decided to tough it out at the house and even found some sheets in a closet there. After a good nights sleep and waking up in paradise, the place didn't look so bad anymore. Now I had to figure out how I was going to get those eight large suitcases to STJ. I called the airline and they would not deliver them so my friend and I hopped on the barge to Red Hook with our rental car (sorry Greg!) and headed for the airport. We ran into a little problem there when only five suitcases would actually fit into the small car we had. I had an idea to go and drop those suitcases off at the Charlotte Amalie ferry to Cruz Bay return to the airport to pick up my friend and the rest of the luggage and then drop her off at the CA ferry to travel with the bags to Cruz Bay and I headed back to Red Hook w/the rest of luggage to take the barge back. I stopped in the Marina Market first to pick up some Cruzan rum and coke. I figured I deserved it after all I just went through. The car ferry isn't bad at all. It was $35.00 round trip and we got to eat lunch in the car on the way over to STT. We bought a couple of rib dinners at Uncle Joe's in STJ. GREAT RIBS!!!! Back on STJ I made two trips to the house to get all the luggage there and then made rum and coke's and emptied the suitcases. I think I was up until 2:30 a.m. I made my bed up with the nice new sheets and new pillow and slept like a baby that night. The next day I went to the Mail Center at the Marketplace to get a mailbox. I wanted to get a cell phone but was told that I was better off getting a cell phone in STT. I checked out the gym membership at the Westin Resort and thought they had some good benefits w/membership. Every 6 months a free room and 10 coupons for $89.00/night rooms. I thought the use of the pool may have been included in membership but was not. I also went to the human resources dept. of the Westin and they had a long list of jobs available. Since I was only visiting for four days I felt I had done enough business and decided it was time to play. We went to Caneel Bay and Cinammon Bay and relaxed for the next couple of days. We made sure we made it to Woody's Happy Hour for Bushwackers every day. I NEED TO GET THAT RECIPE! Also, the best margaritas at Polly's in the Lumberyard. Breakfast - CHili Billy's and JJ's. Took home five of the suitcases with me empty to refill and bring back when I go down with my husband and t wo boys. I will be sending suitcases with my sister and her husband who are going down the end of this month to stay at our house too. I did not accomplish too much this trip but hey it was a good excuse to get away!!

OMG,
Eight! I can't even imagine. I have a hard time with one. Sounds like an interesting way though...
I think we'll stick with the post office method. Although I now know that two checked and a carryon should not cause to much of a problem...

If you don't mind me asking, how big is the house, how much are you paying? Was the company very straightforward? Basically is the house what they said it would be?

I'm still trying to find a places to look at when we go down in July.
