i know this sounds like a strange question but.....my wife and i are seriously thinking about retiring to the islands in about 4 years. i was wondering if anyone has heard of any bagpipers that may live on any of the islands. i/we haven't really decided on any particular island yet so if there were a piper or two on one, that would certainly motivate me to look more closely at that island. thanks :))

Several years ago I tried to find a piper in either the USVI or the VI for a party. Didn't find anyone. There was however a piper in the St Patricks day parade on STX. Don't know where he came from.

There used to be a gentleman named Les who lived aboard his sailboat in Elephant Bay on St. Thomas. I THINK the name of his boat was Melbea, or something similar. He would play every morning in the anchorage. Don't know if he's still around, but maybe someone else reading this knows him better.

well, if things continue the way they are headed then the islands may have a piper. have been doing a lot of research about the relocation and haven't been discouraged yet. have had enough of alaskan winters. time for a change. all indications point to a move to stt as opposed to stx. lots of time to keep researching!!!

When I was on Secret Harbour Beach in February, a man came down a flight of stairs from a home on the far right side...he stood there and played his bagpipes for at least 20 minutes. I am not sure if he is a resident or was visiting.

Bagpiper51 -- We'll be happy to have you in the islands. AND, here you get a double celebration every year that is meaningless in Alaska: St. Andrew's Day is the last day of hurricane season!

well, i always love holidays!!! if things go as i believe they will, then the islands may have a piper in a few years for parties, parades, funerals and weddings.
