A friend arriving on the 17th asked this question: can you get a better rental car deal if you book it before you arrive and pick it up at the airport.............. vs......... renting one once you get here.

Anyone have the straight scoop on this quesiton?

I always book online before I get to St. Croix. I have seen Budget turn people away many times who walk up to the counter after getting off of the plane. Sometimes I have to wait to get my car, but generally it's no problem. As far as deals, check on their web site and see what's available. This summer I got the $196 a week summer rate.

Rental price before vs once on the island - STT. Any known difference? The once on the island part, may be a day or so AFTER arriving by plane.

Deals can be had on STT depending on any affiliations you may have (AARP, AAA, etc.). I found that Discount Rental will rent a small, 2 door (or 4), w/ A/C , to anyone, for $225/wk, if you prove you have Insurance in the States. If you are an RCI (timeshare) member, I think Avis has a great deal at about $150/wk. $144.79 was the best deal I got with my Leisure Path membership (Thrifty).
