Blue Water Terrace - not a good night

Had dinner at Blue Water Terrace last night with not very good results and with quite a high bill. We had drinks right away because we sat at the bar. It took nearly an hour to get an appetizer. Way too long. Another half hour until dinner appeared. I had linguine and clams - turned out to be angel hair and clams which was overdone and soggy. The pasta switch should have been mentioned. I guess the cooks figured nobody would know the difference.

The other main course was a nice salad with a piece of grilled salmon on top. It was ordered medium rare and came out way overdone and dry. We mentioned all this to the server but since the managers are off-island now, nothing will come of it. If only that place could get its service and food consistent, it would be a big improvement. Sometimes its very good, other times not good. I think they've been open long enough now to have their act together.

They are so hit or miss. We live nearby so we go a lot and just forgive them on bad nights. About the only consistent things are the pizzas and calzones. We also love the Greek salad. But many menu items can be spotty. I wish they would give their discerning customers more credit and know we won't overlook everything just because the portion sizes are huge.

We eat there very often also. The pizza is always good (pizza is hard to screw up, I suppose) and the chicken is excellent. However, most of the other menu items we've tried have been disappointing and a stretch for the kitchen staff to say the least. The service can be good depending on who you get but one server in particular (the daughter of the Lori I think) really couldn't care less. I'll still go there, but only for food I feel that they can't screw up too badly. BTW...I hate angel hair pasta.

If service is bad, the food is bad, STOP EATING THERE. They will not get their act together if bad food and bad service is accepted and expected. People will usually forgive bad service if the food is good but not both.

Mike, most of the restaurants here tend to be spotty at times. I can't think of a single one I recommend across the board 100% of the time. There are many factors that a restaurant here have a much harder time controlling than in the states. Food supplies can be sporadic, waitstaff can be flaky (not uncommon to see the same waitperson at four different restaurants in a year), same thing with kitchen staff. There are several restaurants that are consistently good but still have an off day.

Add to that the fact that our local restaurants are typically owned and run by our friends and neighbors who we support and we all generally let it slide. I consider Paulie and Lori friends and while I hope they see the feedback and work on it, I'm not out to put them out of business at all - I would miss their pizza terribly! And having worked in a number of restaurants in the states over the years, I can't imagine running one here. Kudos to those who do, and we really enjoy most of them.

If a restaurant is truly bad here, it fails. We also have a number that fail due to mismanagement. It's life, it happens. The rest, I enjoy, and let the small stuff slide. I just pour another glass and smile.

" I just pour another glass and smile" now that is the island life I'm talkin about WHA WHAT. Don't sweat the small stuff, you know where your at and like the old saying goes, "change the things you can and accept the things you can't".

I've never had major issues with BWT... It is interesting that the owners were not there and you know how the saying goes about the captain not present at the helm....

But my philosophy is, if they have a slightly off day but gave me the service and attention I deserve, I give them a chance... If they give me great food, but lousy service and they don't seem to care about me as a customer and my HARD earned money, then I will never ever set foot on that place again... When they get everything right, I do tell them... Unfortunately, some people do not do that...

By the way, my experience when seating at the bar of various restaurants has not being good for the most part... The only good experience I can recall were at No Bone's Café with Tony at the bar and at Off The Wall...

Apparently...No Bones Cafe is moving to the old Case Place location. This is great for Chuck as it will increase his seating capacity and allow him to upgrade his decor significantly. As a regular No Bones patron, I'm very excited to see this move happen for my friend Chuck.

We were just at No bones last night. We sat at the bar. Tony took good care of us. Chuck was walking around greeting customers and making sure that everything was good. I love a hands on owner.
When are they planning to move to the new location?

I have found Dashi to be consistent and fulfilling. The staff is kind, friendly and attentive.

I will give all operators on STX more than one chance in this environment! With everything on island going against them, it is very hard for the dedicated people in the food industry to wake up with a inspired mind sync.

Smile and tell them you appreciate them! Would you like to trade places????

Peace!

Here's a good article about the tiger sharks that were killed in F'sted (actually back in 2011)

Hear hear!

We also had a great dinner at Tutto Bene the other night. And I love having leftovers for lunch. 🙂

No Bones is always great and Tony is the best bartender on island. Chuck is great too and always makes me feel welcome. One of my favorite places.

Where is the old Case Place location?

In Gallows Bay. From the 4-way stop intersection near Gallows Bay Hardware, go north a couple hundred feet, and it's on the right.

Oh cool, so they're just going around the corner!

Can you believe I've been here years now and still haven't eaten there? Every time I drive by, I think - oh yeah! And then always forget. Will need to ask the hubby to get there with me one night.

The new No Bones will be in the Chander's Wharf building behind Marshall & Sterling.

We ate at No Bones last night. The service and food were awesome. I asked about the move to the old Case Place, and the server said they're thinking about it, nothing definite yet.

Edited to add: And the generator from Schooner Bay was making a huge racket outside. Or I assume that's where the "physical plant" sound was coming from.
