Hello all,

I'm considering switching ISPs, but am also looking for general advice. I have BBVI's $99 package. I'm supposed to be getting 7MBPS, but at night time my speed drops to 1-2 megs per second.

I call, they say there's no problem, my speed jumps up to 6mpbs for an hour, then back down to garbage.

I've been with them for years, but am just getting fed up. I can't really surf the internet, play video games, or stream. For $100 a month I should be getting the speeds I'm paying for.

Any advice / contacts?

I recently switched from Choice to Innovative and I've been pretty happy overall. I consistently get more than the speed I pay for (18mbps/$69.99). Had a day or two in the last 5 or so months where speeds were slow and intermittent, but way better then what I had through Choice. My son is a gamer, we stream movies, have several devices connected at once, with no or very little trouble.

our internet is constantly going in and out ALL the time. when its out for more than 20 minutes and all the other quick fixes have been tried, i call. as soon as i call the internet is back on.

not really sure what the problem is but it has been like this for months.

for 99$ @ innovative you get 50MBP/S & it's very stable.

I've been happy with it, I have around 4-6 people on my internet every night.. never had any speed issues since they switched me over to 50MBP/S

I'm really struggling with this. I love supporting a little guy and really hate the thought of giving Innovative any business after cutting them off years ago. I know its only a faceless utility and I shouldn't care.

Barely hanging on...

Broadband VI is rolling out our Next Generation technology as fast as we can. Customers are getting 25Mbps now, 50Mbps next year. Amazing stuff. Lightning has not been our friend, causing multiple outages at Mt. Welcome, Blue Mountain and Bordeaux on STJ this week.

DonExodus, email me at mike@broadband.vi and I'll give you an update on when upgrades will be happening in your area.

We just visited St. Thomas and are looking to move there. I was super surprised about the affordability and access to internet on the islands. We live on a farm in Nebraska and only have access to 2mbps for $80 a month. But if I lived 15 miles to the north we would have 100mbps access for the same price. I have to say as we have been researching the possibility of moving, many things are more expensive there, but USVI seems to be doing a great job with easy internet access, even though it is provided by a giant evil corporation. Just thought I would share a mainlander's viewpoint.

If a mainland viewpoint considers a company that employs hundreds of Virgin Islanders and has local owners on the corporate level - giant and evil ---[ IMHO ! ]--- you are sounding quite uninformed about the circumstances and culture of the VI way of life.

Innovative (GIANT & EVIL) doesn't have local owners. They're owned by ATN International which also owns Choice Communications among several other similar companies in the US and internationally.

Broadband VI (not GIANT or EVIL), however, is a small local company.

I'm sticking with Broadband VI as long as I can.

I moved to Innovative since choice didn't work for me when I moves to STX.

I have never had one issue in the year and a half. Always the speed it is supposed to be and my bill is $69 for the 18mbps. I exclusively stream all day when I am home woking - netflix, hulu, amazon prime movies and never once have had it buffer. In fact I am shocked how awesome the service is. I pay my bill online and have no complaints.

Seems like at least once or twice a month you see a BBVI issue post in here. I had a really bad experience with the manager guy in STT so they burnt that bridge for me. Loving innovative.

I would kill someone if I was getting 1-3mb lol especially since my business relies on the internet.

BBVI upgraded my radio this morning. Thank you very much! No charge and we went from about 7mbps down to 26mbps down. $99 plan. Before the upgrade we were doing just fine though working from home and streaming. We also use our connection for our VOIP phone service. Sticking with Broadband VI.

I've loved having BBVI and DISH TV but even I am considering switching and bundling services for phone, cable and internet and saving $$$ since supposedly their services have improved.

I switched to DISH due to always having to go into Innovative to change out their outdated cable boxes due to their failures and sitting there, waiting, sometimes for hours just to change the box. I've never used their internet service. Had Choice until I couldn't stand them anymore when their services deteriorated to the point of ridiculousness.

Question:

If there's a power outage, do you lose service for cable and internet with Innovative even if you have a generator?

No as long as the battery's good in your Innovative ENT (the router-like thing that everything plugs into).

For what it's worth, we recently dropped their cable service because of repeated DVR failures, but kept phone and internet.

But if there's a prolonged outage, how long will their battery last?

Longest I've seen is three days, WAPA came back before the battery died. I think Innovative claims 7 days, with a good battery.

I've got a brand new battery for the evo box and if power goes out so does the phone.

The main problem I have with switching is in the event of a hurricane, all your communication is dependent on those heavy lines staying up on the poles. If they go down, you lose phone cable and internet all in one fell swoop.

I'm not thrilled with the evo box.
Used to be you could just plug in a non electronic phone into the phone outlet and could have service even with the power out. No more.

Actual, it could go out.
Out on the plant are power supplies which power devices such as amplifiers and nodes. Many cable systems use deep cycle batteries as back up power should commercial power go out. The new Innovative power supplies have generators as a back up power source. So in the even of a prolonged WAPA outage fuel for those generators could run out. The power supplies would die. The plant goes dead. I don't know how long a supply of fuel the generators have.

Does innovative really have back up generators these days?
I know they didn't previously and hadn't heard/read that they now did.
Thanks for the info.

If we are able to log into your radio, and see a good Ethernet connection to your router, that means your router has stopped passing traffic or your laptop is not connecting to your router. I am sorry you are having Internet issues, but it sounds like it is either your router or laptop that has a problem.
