Chucky Deemed Ineligible

Now, let's see how quickly our apathetic senators move to remove her.
I am curious as to how her ineligibility effects any laws or bills she crafted and/or were passed while sitting on the senate over the recent years since she should not have been allowed to be serving(??) in the legislature, in the first place.

her voice is one of the few that i absolutely can not stand, makes me cringe

True story. My first law firm here had a "one foot rule" WRT to Rohn. That is, if you could hold the phone receiver a foot or more from your ear and still hear her screaming, you were permitted to hang up.

There was a great quote in the VIDN today from BB's attorney.
"Law-makers should not be law-breakers!"

No comment from any Senators as yet.
You can bet they are scrambling to cover their own backsides in this issue.

HA. If they enforced that dictum, the entire Legislature would have to resign.

Considering the source the statement is rather ironic, to say the least.

This is the present legislature's fault because they did not take it upon themselves to do the work when the issue initially came up and to do the right thing.

There used to be a time when politicians used to be looked upon with respect.
Now, I look at them as wolves in sheep's clothing, just waiting to put a hand in someone else's pocket. One can only shake their head in disgust.

Here's the decision by the Supreme Court:

Anyone want to bet DeJongh will go ahead pardon her?
"Makes my head want to explode" as a good friend often says about politics in the VI!

Sigh. So are they holding up printing the ballots to see if he pardons? Based on Chucky's argument, anybody should be able to run for public office. No vetting required. If that's the case, we should all submit an application to get on the ballot and overwhelm the system.

She'll have to pay big time for the pardon. Who else will deJongh pardon and for how much? Early Christmas for him!

Yes, there are quite a few that I wouldn't vote for, but at least I have choices and a say. I want to get the impression that they are at least listening to what I have to say. They need input from all of us, because they will be representing all of us.

"Hansen's legal representatives have pointed out that she has been twice elected by the voters of St Croix after they learned of her conviction and after the Election System’s processes resulted in her name being on the ballot for the election of members of both the 29th and 30th Legislature."

It's hard to fix stupid.

Paper reports today that the Governor is considering expedited pardon application and Lee "the Boss" Rohn has her minions busily scribbling away at a (soon-to-be disregarded) petition for a writ of cert to SCOTUS.

Good luck, y'all!

Um, wasn't she convicted in federal court? Can governor pardon convicted federal offenders? Not according to my Google search this morning.

She was convicted in Federal Court of a local offense. Tax Matters can be filed and tried in the District Court even though they are usually local issues.

Yep. That's why the at-large voting needs to go away and the islands need to be districted. Separate administrative districts between the islands would be even better.

I agree. As long as I can remember that issue has been brought up regularly and would be far more sensible than the present system.

IIRC, an attorney from STX kept trying to get funding to bring a Voting Rights Act claim against the VI for this, but I don't think he ever got anywhere. The idea was that this "at large" voting discriminated against the minority white folks here on island because they lived in smaller, centralized enclaves that did not reflect their votes when counted on an "at large" basis. Or something like that.

I can tell you from twelve years of residency on STX that the idea of an East End voting bloc is not favored here.

I seriously need a drink. I don't know why ON EARTH I expected that the elected officials in this jx would act rationally and responsibly. For all of my expressed cynicism, I do wish good things for the USVI. They just CAN'T HAPPEN when people like Chucky and DeJongh are running the place. WHEN WILL PEOPLE REALIZE THIS!?!?!?!
