Crate & Barrel: Shipping Big Stuff?

Has anyone tried shipping larger items from Crate and Barrel, such as furniture? Whenever I'm in the stores stateside they insist that they can do it. I have actually had success with area rugs (those indoor/outdoor ones work well if you haven't tried them). These were quite large and oddly shaped, but not really all that heavy (also pretty forgiving if you bumped, dropped, or squashed them) . C & B quoted me an "international" rate each time that was amazingly reasonable.

So, I'm wondering, has anyone ever had, say, an arm chair, couch, or something like that shipped directly from C & B?

Thanks,

Islandlola

I suppose you could just go ahead and place the order, and when you get to the final check-out phase, they will either accept your address or not. Sometimes a company will say they have to verify shipping costs, and they won't charge your credit card until they do, and get your approval.

I have had orders accepted and later gotten the "oops, we made a mistake" email. Give it a shot, and see what happens. Sometimes it's really surprising what you actually CAN get shipped here.

Good luck.

Hey Juanita:

Yeah, I think I've just got to try it. I hit up against the address problem on the area rugs, too, but they called somebody while I was in the store and somehow they got past it. It took maybe two weeks after I placed each order to get the rugs.

What with some of the sales and promotions I've seen at C & B over the past few months, it looks as if it'd be worth it even with the shipping cost--if it gets here in decent shape.

Best,

Ilo

I know for Pottery Barn there is an asterisk after heavier/larger furniture items with the legend "ships only in the continental US." I think you have to send it to a consolidator in FL.
