Instead of being angry about gas going up, we should be angry about the poor selection of hybrid and alternative energy cars. We don' t need to rely on gas the way we do. But none of the big dogs will mass produce a good alternative fuel car. The prius is the best out there but I know they could do much better.

The Hess stations in this NYC suburb are selling the gas made in STX for 3.80 or so today--. You figure--this gallon of fuel has sixty cents in federal and state tax on it, plus a couple percent local sales tax. While they are not paying WAPA rates, the electric is running at 24 cents a kwh...so the electric is not cheap in NY. They transport this fuel from STX to the New Jersey port, and then truck it from there--into New York, and the gas stations here are making money at that price. . $3.20 after the tax subtraction! Does this give you any idea how we are being gouged on the price in the VI--especially on stx?

Thursday night we went to get gas and the Avis at Pueblo Golden Rock. Gas was $3.45, but it was going up all over, so we figured we had to suck it up. They didn't have the newspaper, so they told us to go down the road towards Sunny Isle. The gas station they sent us to did have the Avis, and they had gas for $3.19!!! We were pretty psyched we didn't buy at Golden Rock. I love St. Croix.

The highest I've seen here in Southern New Jersey near Atlantic City is 3.59. Where will it end? A funny story--The gas stations along the Garden State Parkway, a major thoroughfare that runs from the bottom tip of New Jersey all the way up North to New York State, are allowed by state law to only change their prices once a week. About two weeks ago, the price of gas went up so fast that these stations were selling gas at 20 cents less than every other station. People lined up for miles to fill up. I said this was a funny story, but in reality it's not funny at all. We can send men to the moon, rovers to Mars, etc. but we can't come up with an environmentally friendly fuel source? Hmmm......

greetings all;
Most people think of a barrel of oil as a regular barrel.....55 gallons!!! It is not, it is only 45 gallons to a barrel of crude! Plus, there is only, on average, 19.5 gallons of gasoline in each 45 gallon barrel! The balance of the barrel is aviation fuel, diesel, sulphur, propane, butane, and a bunch of other saleable products. It is also know that when processed, that 45 gallon barrel also grows by a few gallons...productions swell!

Philadelphia suburbs (PA) was $3.73/gal regular and $4.03 premium today. Thank the Lord for His wisdom in my choice of Prius. It certainly offsets my 15-passenger van's 13 mpg. 🙂

Tip: most all gas is burned in acceleration. Accelerate slowly and you will save a lot of gas.

The same kind of speculation drove the housing bubble, which eventually burst, hopefully this will burst also and sooner rather than later.

The hubby's nice F150 Triton V8 will make a nice lawn ornament. At least you don't drive far on an island, one tank of gas lasted nearly a week in Maui (we explored the whole island too, including Haleakala), of course, on the Big Island, not so much. You sure can burn through a tank fast here in Phoenix. :-X

Just filled up with Regular at $4.29 Airport Texaco -- Smith Bay Texaco was holding at $4.07 until yesterday but the lines were too long for me all last week. Now at $4.29 there too.

$3.37 yesterday at Capitol on STX. I certainly never thought I'd see the day I'd be crowing about finding gas for $3.37.

And you know it's going up on the VI the first part of June, again. Has to with the rise in barrel price. Don't know how WAPA is doing it--I sort of recall something about a bigger credit line a bit ago, though.

On St. Thomas it's as high as 4.27 --- 4.06 is considered low. I'd hate to hear what it is on St. John.
