I will be moving to STT in july and plan on attending UVI. I just had my transcripts sent to UVI from my previously attended colleges. My question is if I wait a year can I get resident tuition, even if I am still claimed as a dependent of my parents and they live in Colorado? Also I dont want to miss the deadline, but I wont get there until the end of july and I might have to apply as a non matriculated student due to my grades. Is there anyone that works on campus or has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

Residency for tuition purposes is federally legislated (because it's tied to federal financial aid) and separate from residency for voting or other purposes. If you live here for a year and your parents are in CO, how will you support yourself? If the money will come from your parents, then you are a dependent and likely considered a resident of CO for tuition purposes no matter where you live (like a student who attends college out of state). If you are self supporting, you can file your taxes independent of your parents and after a year you will be a VI resident for tuition purposes. You can pose your question to the VI admissions folks. You can find their number here: www.uvi.edu And try to get whatever they tell you in writing!
