They are getting ready to do some construction in Red Hook. The signs went up last week including:

WORK AHEAD
1000 FTS.

and

CONSTRUCTION BEGIN

Of course, this is just a few foots from IEKS High School. 😉

Saw them this past week. Can't wait until they get photographed and are put on message boards. My best guess is they were done in Puerto Rico where they just and an 's' to make it plural. pie, pies. so foot, foots!

So, Puerto Ricans are likely responsible for:

1. Delay/loss of our USPS packages
2. Incorrect grammar in our road signs

Anything else? 😀

Items have "gone missing" from my suitcases on two occasions - both going through San Juan....never seems to happen going through Miami.

We had a shipment stooped by US Customs in PR. When it arrived 2 items were missing. US Customs said it must be our mistake. "Customs agents don't steal."

Don't wait, your comment took a turn! When I sold cars we brought the Japanese ones from Puerto Rico. They always stole the cigarette lighters! It got so bad that the distributor had to take them out, put them in a bag, and hand them to the Captain, who in turn handed them to me or the person clearing the cars when they arrived! Also when I brought cars from the states, if through Puerto Rico, things would be missing. Shipped directly here with the same company, no problem.
I commented about he misspelling on the sign as I figured that could be the reason for it. I would hope anyone making signs here would know the proper abbreviation for feet!

East Ender & Ronnie:

I kind of like the "foots" better.....similar to "shrimp" and "shrimps".....it better defines the plurality of things.

I went to a restaurant recently here in NJ and ordered the "Shrimp and Scallops with Pasta" dinner. The meal was served with (really) one shrimp and a dozen or so scallops.....when I commented to the waiter that there was only one shrimp the waiter pointed out that the menu states "Shrimp (singular) and Scallops (plural)"........"shrimps" would have better defined my choice......LOL.

Ronnie may be right. If it had been written by a creole-speaking Virgin Islander, it would have said: 1000 ft dem. 😉

BIUT they seem to have the distances correct ... I passed 600 fts and 800 fts today and they seemed in the right place.

Georgian language does it differently. One foot, two foot. The "two" denotes the plural, so we don't need to change the noun. Cool! 😎
