Sounds like that guy may have been crooked. You should definitely report him to BBVI. It's a shame one bad employee has soured your opinion of a pretty awesome local company.

Are you sure you get your money back when you return your equipment? When I tried Choice's service you could return the equipment during the first thirty days if you didn't like their service for a full refund, but after that you owned the equipment.

Also if you need an external antenna installed to improve reception, because you don't have a window facing the correct direction where you can locate your modem, the cost for Choice to install an outside antenna was as I remember $200. If your cell phone service doesn't give you a strong signal in the interior of your home you may need to install the external antenna.

If you had asked/demanded to be installed right away, there is a $100 expedite fee which would have taken the total installation cost to $300.

LOL I dont demand anything, ever.... well maybe for another beer from my boyfriend 😉 He was NOT interested in my business AT ALL, was rude, and said yea we can set u up.... start up costs $300. I asked what that was for and he said installation and we stared at each other blankly. I thought he would elaborate on that but nope. I was turned off by the attitude so I left.

That makes sense Jim. I did ask specifically and they did say it was refundable at the termination of service, whenever that was. I am betting that she misunderstood. I can't imagine they would actually take back a used piece of equipment for full refund lol.

Still curious what BBVI installation is. Do they run lines or something... IDK if its even available in my area.

We have a receiver installed on the outside of our house for BBVI. Think like a satellite dish, but for broadband wireless. No wires to break and outages, when they do happen, are brief.

I've tried Choice, Innovative, Hughes Sat and BBVI.

BBVI is the best.

When I canceled my Choice (lack thereof) Service, I attempted to return the modem and get deposit back but that's not the policy. The modem is yours and there was no refund, even when they cannot and do not provide you with reliable service and timely, accurate billing. Costs more with BBVI but speeds are better, service has been excellent and if something goes down, they are pretty prompt in getting you back up and running and everyone that I have dealt with has been very nice, courteous and helpful. Big Plus, IMO.

We had Innovative in our office and it was always going down so I opted not to use them even tho they offer reduced costs for bundling 3 or more services. When they go down, even if you have a generator, you are out of luck.

A few years back I gave Choice every opportunity to provide me with halfway decent service and it went from the sublime to the ridiculous. After several months of totally frustrating nonsense, the patience of a saint and a plethora of emails back and forth with the CEO, I finally told them to take their equipment out. I got back from them every penny I'd spent, monthly fees and all.

Got any other info on this? It seemed to me like those two are in over their head with Techbox, no idea how they could possibly be capable of launching an ISP.

re: Techbox... Sadly I am addicted to Apple products. Its sick really. I love to go into tech box - they have one kid, white kid who's still in High School... he knows his stuff!! He's my favorite.

Recently my macbook (old white one) crashed. They did A LOT to get it back to working and they DID! I was pretty shocked... the ONLY downside is that they wiped my HD clean when I asked specifically not to do that.... Sadly my external back up had died the week before. (I believe a corrupt file took them bout out). So everything was gone. Luckily I have a second backup with some of my older stuff but I lost a lot of photos. I could have uploaded the files but they decided to wipe it clean. Overall I was happy to have the computer back and running like a champ. I decided to sell it and get a new macbook pro only to find out that they don't stock computers???? Um????? What???? They said they'd have to order it in. There was also another couple from the cruise ship who wanted a macbook Air... they didn't have them in stock either. I would have loved to support a local business but you have to have goods to sell. Ordered it on Amazon.

I'm in the same boat, and I was a little shocked when I walked into "St Thomas' new Apple store" and asked for a Mac Pro, 27" Thunderbolt display, Mac Mini, and a Macbook Pro and the clerk told me they don't stock computers, just accessories.

This is an article from the Source last year with the owners.

That's a shame as they are really dropping the ball by not providing the products customers need, when they need them or at least being able to order them for you. Do they stock Ipads?

YEARS ago, Caribbean Computer Exports was in Buccaneer Mall and carried a full line of Apple products and, when they closed up, there was another place in that mall who carried and serviced them too. Looks like the latter has gone too. The last time I was in there a few years ago their stock was minimal and their prices way higher than buying stateside, so I bought stateside! With all the easy internet ordering these days it's probably just not a viable proposition to carry any stock here and particularly now that the product expansion has grown in leaps and bounds.

PC Paradise is who you are thinking of, they bought out CCE and were also in St. Croix. They moved over by Pizza Amore but don't think they have much in the way of anything except for accessories.

Thanks for the brain nudge - yes, that's who I was thinking of. Shows how often I get down into the hubbub of "civilization". 😀
