Good to know. I was thinking no way I could ever live on a space station, I would have constant motion sickness... :@)

Swans, we got up on the roof to watch ISS go by. We took our Ipad and binoculars and the clouds blew to the west just in time for us to see it but according to skywalk on our Ipad just as it approached the horizon it started going west along the horizon. We never saw it. Did we do something wrong?

Hi Tammy ; Hi JJ.
ISS should have been seen starting from the NW, and then she should have glided almost overhead straight to the SSE. - in the exact opposite direction from where she arrived in the NW. What I can suggest is going outside five minutes earlier and locate what her flight path should be (eg. West to East). It may help in locating her easier when she suddenly appears to strut her stuff!

I'm sorry you may have missed her tonight - and it also has happened to me too! - but I promise you will get another chance when she returns in the evenings. 🙂

We did go out to look 5 minutes early. I don't know if we missed her because of the clouds. What confused us was skywalk on our Ipad. Just as she was about to appear over the horizon it showed her going due west along the horizon. Doug is still tracking her via skywalk and a few minutes ago she was over the Philippines.

At the moment, ISS should be just past Florida, from the NW to the SSE direction. Doug should have this, yes?.

The Phillipines: She went over the Phillipines at 6:29 pm their time tonight.

Thanks Swan! You forgot to tell us to use a cellphone tonight, tomorrow night, and Monday night for ISS's arrival for time accuracy and that the spacestation will look like a bright light as it goes across the sky! Are you slipping, Swan? 😀 See you in a couple.

Stxbob : great egg! 😀 Can ISS see that one Swan?

G'Day,
ISS is returning to the VIs this week to dazzle her followers with her flyovers! 😀

Tues., May 1st
Time: 7:30 pm
A 3 min. run @ 25 degrees over the horizon
Arriving from the North and Departing to the ENE. ( N to ENE) The arc is relatively short.

Thurs.., May 3rd
Time: 7:15 pm
A 5 min. run - Overhead!
Arriving from the NNW and Departing to the SE. ( NNW to SE) A great run!

A crew of three remain on ISS after the successful return of 3 previous members last Friday aboard Russia's Soyuz - TMA-22.

I also included a link for those followers of ISS and their families who might enjoy images of/ from ISS. Nice job NASA...:-)

Note: By clicking on the individual image, a description details the event ISS was engaged in at that time.

"Give 'em a wave!"

Thank you Houston,
Swan

Swans, we are waiting for you to explain our beautiful full moon tonight.

I'll chime in with some sun trivia.

The sun is passing directly overhead the USVI today (give or take a day). At our latitude of 18 degrees North, it happens each year around May 5 and August 4. Between those two dates, the sun is north of us at Noon. The rest of the year, the sun is south of us at Noon.

Here is an old thread on the subject: https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?4,143442

Swans, we are waiting for you to explain our beautiful full moon tonight.

Hi Tam and my favorite young scientist, JJ,

Yes, tonight's Supermoon...a must see right after sunset over the horizon when Moon will "appear" much larger than normal and at 11:34 pm. EDT tonight when Moon will be Closest to the Earth on it's elliptical orbit (oval shaped) around Earth.

When the Moon is at PERIGEE - the closest in distance between it and Earth @ 225,622 miles apart AND is a FULL moon at the same time, Moon is referred to as "Supermoon." It will be very slightly larger at 14% and 30% brighter than it is usually seen during monthly full moons.

The Moon is at APOGEE - a distance furthest from Earth @ 252,088 miles. The difference of 26,466 miles between Apogee and Perigee leads scientists to believe that "Supermoon" may, in fact, be an optical illusion (ponzo illusion), because a 26,000 mile distance up there is barely a hint at best. (NOAA/ NASA)

What might be your and the rest of our members' opinions after viewing tonights event? Optical illusion? or not?

NOTE: METEOR SHOWER "ETA AQUARIDS" occurs tonight. Supermoon may greatly adversely affect the ability to see the shower, but a fireball may escape Moon's brightness and show off a bit.

Thank you Tammy and JJ.
Enjoy 🙂

Swan

Sorry Swan, I forgot to tell you that JJ wants you to put a bar of Ivory soap in the microwave for 60 to 90 seconds. Very cool. We nuked 4 bars today. Afterwards observe the soap and make a guess wether the soap weighed the same amount after heating in the microwave. Then explain why it does or does not weigh the same. We weighed our soap with a bucket balance and gram cubes. In the second experiment we used a 1/4 inch drill bit and twisted it by hand into the bar of soap penetrating about 1/3 of the way through. We then put it into the microwave and heated it the same amount of time as the first bar with very different results. Why did we get different results after making a hole in the soap? This was a fun experiment and you can still use the soap afterward. It also looks good enough to eat. We also tried different things such as adding food coloring. That was a bit messy.

Monday we are going to try and make a particle acclerator aka atom smasher with a balloon and a coin.

Thank you, JJ, for sharing this great experiment with us! I am definately placing it on my "to do list" It sounds like fun! It is remarkable how various wavelengths act from radio waves to gamma rays. 🙂

Please let us know the results of the particle accelerator test. This is going to be very interesting! What 'forces' are involved?
Thanks Tam! Thanks JJ!

Finally the cloud cover has broken enough to see the big beautiful moon. Good night to read about Ezekiels "extraterrestrial visit". *-)
No disrespect intended to anyone but I remember as a child telling my Dad after church that Ezekiel was visited by aliens and he was just too stupid to realize it. One of the many nights I was sent to bed without my supper.
