This is the beginning of my favorite time of year and... if you live on St. Croix, like I do ... you'd better start marking your calendars!

Last night was Art Thursday in Christiansted... its always fun and very supportive of our many local artists... If you missed last night... or even if you didn't.... mark your calendar for next month and bring your friends... its another great excuse to get out and have fun.

Thanksgiving Jump Up is coming up soon... it's the Friday after Thanksgiving! Plan to get out and support all of our downtown businessess... lets help kick off the season with a great jump-up turn out. Always a great time!

That same weekend is the first of our seasonal 'Starving Artists' out at Whim plantation. Usually the November starving artists is by far the best and the biggest...... plus..great food and its so fun to see everybody. See you there!

The following weekend is a three in one opportunity to support one of our often forgotten natural resources - The St. George Botanical Garden. This is a wonderful non profit organization and their big fund-raiser every year is the 'CHRISTMAS SPOKEN HERE' weekend of events. On Friday the 5th of December they are having their GALA event which is a fabulous sit-down dinner (look for posters and ads going up now) with a great silent auction and 10 gorgeous live christmas trees up for auction. A great opportunity to get dressed up and get in the spirit! The live trees are decorated each year by local artists and crafty/creative peoples and are a real treat to see. They will be on dispaly for the whole community to appreciate at the two events following the GALA... Saturday's SIP & SHOP - a special open house event at the Garden's wonderful museum store (if you haven't been there yet go check it out on Saturday the 6th from 10 to 5...great unique gift items)... and then on Sunday the garden becomes the scene of a craft fair, santa's workshop (bring the kids there are tons of activities for kids this year), food vendors and the super popular Christmas Cooks competition - where local cooks can compete for cash prizes in categories of COQUITO, VIENNA CAKE, TARTS, and SWEET BREADs (I'm going for the tasting part... yummmmmm). Like last year they are also having a big "White Reindeer" Flea Market sale with lots and lots of slightly used items up for sale at thrift store prices - FUN! (They are still looking for more cooks! C'mon... join the fun!)

After that... you should be all primed for the Christmas gift giving and party attending ... and stocked up on great holiday hostess gifts!

If you know of other fun things happening... share.... this is part of the fun of island living!

Enjoy!

Speaking of good holiday songs, my hands-down laugh til you hurt favorite is Joseph Spence singing "Santa Clause is Coming to Town". Spence is a Bahamian singer. He sounds like a hundred year old demented schizophrenic. Really. You MUST hear this. I listen to it year round whenever I need a belly laugh. You can find it on Itunes.

Wow, thanks for posting that link! Hadn't seen it before.

Isn't that rendition a hoot? Sounds like Popeye the Sailor Man at age 102.
